Well i had a virus on my pc so I had to kill it as it was raping my HDD, though I shouldn't be surprised as it is 13 years old.

The technology is not dependent on Facebook.
Trust me they have EVERYTHING.

And NSA just built their most ambitious futuristic global monitoring centers that will spy on everything but they don't care about your children though, i think its to prevent subversions or infiltrations who knows.

Sir I trust the NSA far more than Zuckerburg. The NSA does not monitor what is copies, it simple archives everything and certain filters are probably in place to detect things that might harm this country. Completely reasonable, they will not arrest child preadtors, online casinos, murderers, rapists, etc... They will not look for people trying to scam each other.... They will CERTAINLY not be looking at my private convo with my girlfriend.

For example in the article that 30 something year old guy said something about sex and "meeting up" to a 13 year old. That program would have found those specific words and checked ages (which is necessary to provide when you start an account on facebook) and then flagged to actual people that something is not right.
So I don't think this is snooping at all, it catches cases it should catch as the example in the article suggests, and facebook protects themselves by not providing a medium for all kinds of naughty stuff to happen, which is in their Data Use Policy (https://www.facebook.com/about/privacy/other).
Remember that facebook is a business and should be treated as such.

So if I'm talking about meeting up to go have sex with a girlfriend and we start having an intimate conversation that raises a "flag" a live person is going to come in and start reading my private stuff? That's EXTREMELY alarming. Not that I use facebook for much more than events / news feed the IDEA that someone is going to see that makes me want to not use it at all.

Even MySpace didn't stoop so low...

I know I didn't. Why isn't this getting MORE attention?? Facebook is reading your conversations, your private messages, selling your information to the highest bidder.

Things you say in public forum are... in public forum. What frightens me is there may be a day when facebook is legally required to do this. Today, they do it so they don't get bad PR.

"He said online he was going to shoot people, and facebook didn't do anything to contact the authorities." - Just so we're clear on this, I do not think facebook should feel obligated to do anything.

Maybe they aren't obligated but where do we draw the line? What if he said he was going to bring down some buildings? And actually comes through with it?

If you guys are so paranoid about facebook, you might want to check out Disconnect. Facebook monitors your browsing even if you're not on facebook. Facebooks on pretty much every website out there.

Well since Facebook hit the stock market facebook is like distant family. I have never actually used facebook that much; only to ask people for homework that I missed and stuff like that. I am kind of on the positive side of this. I mean, we all know we are being monitored by our countries. Nothing we do is a secret any more - only if you know how to hide well wink.gif
