Typicly when something holds back an overclock it is either motherboard or RAM. In your case, it could be either. What kind of ram is it? Do you have any details?

That's probably the problem. Depending on what your FSB is, that RAM is gonna hold you back from getting a higher overclock because it just can't run that fast. (RAM speed goes up proportionaly with FSB)

What kind of ram do you have?
Also what is the stepping on you processor? You can find out by downloading a program called cpuz.....
By the looks of it it looks like you skt478... same cpu as I...

in order to push it to 4 ghz your bus should be clocked at 267Mhz plus it's 15x multiplier and that makes about 4,005, but dunno if the ram can hold it
post #8 of 24
Its most likely the ram. I don't see why you're not using pc3200. have you tried setting it to a divider, because i highly doubt that it could go any further. I took my Geil ram to 280 and it wouldn't boot. thats 4200..but i have managed to get it to run @ 4000 or 270. too many errors though. So i backed down. Perhaps consider getting some higher rated ram and you should be able to push it farther

EDIT: Cpu-Z Download

Define "fine" The Prescott is runs the hottest out of all the P4s.
