360 harddrive problem

Yea... I have a core... not my mistake though. Anyways I really don't want to spend 100 bucks on a 20gig harddrive and the only reason I want one is for xbl. So is there a way I can use my pc harddrive or just one laying around?

I'm going to throw out a no here, because I know that you can't upgrade the hard drive one it, so I will assume you can't just slap one on it. Also Microsoft wouldn't let you use one of your Hard Drives instead of buying one of theirs for $100.

I dont think so, I know that it can be done on the XBox Original, but it requires a mod chip, which I don't believe has been made for a 360 yet.

there's no mods forthe 360 yet..it usually takes a LONG time to mod a system....

You're gonna have to buy the 100 bucks HDD.

There is definately not a way right now. Maybe if you wait a few years then someone will crack the code on the HDDs. The way it was in the Xbox was each HDD had a code that corresponded to it's motherboard. My friend once accidentally went online without clearing his cache after using a modded drive and it banned his code from Xbox live. He will never be able to play again because the code goes with the Xbox and both are banned form Live. If you try to use a regular HDD, it will have none of that verification stuff to check for modified content. Even if there is ever a way to use a regular HDD as a replacement for the authentic one, it wont be able to go online without getting your box banned for modified content.

What you have to do is get the EPROM off the internal memory somehow that's how you had to do it ith the old box. Since the Xbox had a standard HDD for each console it was easily obtainable by putting hte OEM HDD in a modded Xbox and FTP'ing into the HDD to get it.

For the 360, it's obviously different since there are 2 different SKU's, and I'm sure M$ has their HDD #'s logged in a database (this is if you use LIVE). If you don't plan on using Live you or someone still has to hack the internal Memory to pull out the associated files that look for an HDD and put those somehow onto a new HDD. I think larger HDD upgrades will happen first rather than slapping a PC HDD onto the box

Long process and I'm sure modders are working diligently on it, but for now you can't do it and have to suck it up and pay the money if you want the HDD

He got the core system that doesnt have a hard drive (I am assuming it was a gift, judging from him saying it wasn't his fault), but now he wants to play on live, which requires the premium system's Hard Drive, and the addon hard drives are bleedingly expensive, around $100, he wants to mod in his own using a laptop hard drive I would assume. Simple answer is no, not at this time, end of story.

I'm pretty knowledgeable about the xbox mod scene and I can tell you for sure there is no way to use an aftermarket hard drive in place of the 360's hard drive. You're going to just have to bite the bullet and spend the 100 bucks. I'm sure somewhere down the line someone will find a way to upgrade the hard drive, just like they did with the original xbox, but for now, it's not possible. Most likely the drives are somehow locked to the 360. Not specific to the box, but specific to the hardware. Until someone figures out where the locking data is stored and how to duplicate it, no aftermarket drives.
