I am new to OC!

Ok here it goes...I am overclocking my conroe x6800 B2 using just a simple bump in the multiplier...I am up from 11 to 12, and I appear to be stable using just simple voltages (around 1.23)..is that voltage too low? I thought that the best thing was to adjust voltages to the lowest possible while still maintaining stability.

I couldnt make the 13 clock ratio stable, even when I took the voltage up to 1.375. when I did that, my vcore temps went around 55C and that made me nervous. Right now, they are humming along full load under orthos, at 44C. Is there a better way to overclock? I thought about lowering the multi and raising the FSB frequency. Havent done that yet.

My ram is running 4-4-4-4-12 T2 @ 2.1 volts, and that seems pretty decent.

I also noticed peopel talking about ram to fsb ratio 1:1 is the best. Mine is set to 3:2. Is it best to change that, and if so, how?

Thanks for the messages guys.....but back to the questions...is it a good idea to stay at 12 and raise FSB, and should I change the fsb / ram ratio?

You could try the vcore at "Auto" and monitor temps to make sure that it doesn't get too high. 55C is the Full Load (Prime95 on both cores) that I feel comfortable with. Idle temps take a backseat to Load temps, Load is the most important.

RAM timings look good. I wouldn't mess with them for now.

Did you change the divider yourself, or is it on auto? You should find an option under Advanced Settings in the BIOS. If you are uncertain which it is, post back. Maybe take some pics of your BIOS screens and post them as well.

I would set pre-determined plateaus for your OC to "sit on" for a few days or a week. During this time, play, surf and torture that system to see if it handles it stably. Prime95 should run on both cores for at least 8 hours w/o failing. Once you have decided that your system is stable, take it further.

Good luck, I look forward to seeing your success.

hey thanks for the advice....so it is better to run the ratio of FSB / Ram 1:1? I am trying to find it in the bios, and I am sure I can if I keep looking...I can try the vcore setting at auto...right now, sitting at 1.23, I am still error free on orthos torture test. Would it even be advisable to change it to auto? so, if i set the fsb to ram 1:1, that will bring my ram around 1000 mHz, correct?

also, isnt running orthos the same as prime 95 per core, as orthos automatically deals with the affiniy issue by smashing both cores?

ok here it is...went into the bios and found were I can manually assign the ram and fsb speeds...cool....I left it laone for now, because I found options for FSB and RAM turbo mode...any idea what that is? I turned them on, as they were off previously. I tried to boot with vcore temps to auto, but no post. so I chanegd them back to ultra low and booted fine...I couldnt boot with ram at 1000 mHz either....does it make that much difference to adjust ram to 900 mHz?

Sorry I didn't get back sooner.

Yeah, 1000Mhz on 800 RAM is high. You would have to boost the VDIMM up to 2.0 - 2.1

Before you go any further will you post some screenshots of CPUz? This will eliminate any wording confusion...

Also, Can you post some shots of your BIOS? Your rig may not have posted for another reason other than Vcore.
