Laptop as HTPC, thinking about building the real thing.

My POS Samsung BD-D5500 blueray player is on its last leg. I sent it to Samsung for the 2nd time a few days ago. Getting tired of messing with it. In the mean time I hooked my laptop up to my LCD tv and have been using it to stream netflix, and I found that I really like it. I much prefer it to using the bluray player to stream. I can cruise OCN on the bigscreen as well, pretty cool. Im thinking about putting my old system together with a MATX board, or maybe just in a smaller case and using it as an HTPC. The old system is "The new machine, not so new anymore" in my sig.

Is an 8800GTS 320mb enough for an HTPC? my laptop has an AMD Phenom II N970 and HD 4250 graphics, and I havnt had any issues streaming in HS on my TV. Anything thats not in the sticky about HTPCs that I should know?

edit-
Im pretty sure Id pick up a small SSD for the HTPC instead of using the old 160gb slowmo drive.

Wow an i7 9xx for HTPC is just overkill lol Since u getting a new board anyway why not an A6-3500 + A55/A75 mATX? That 8800GTS is ok for a light gaming rig but the most current IGPs are good to go for HTPC duty and keep all silent, cool and heat at a minimum wink.gif
