Ya, most likely, although they do switch back and forth between Nvidia and ATI for various applications. My old Macbook Pro is ATI equipped (Pre AMD aquisition) but now they are putting Nvidia in the new MBP's for Retina display resolutions.

It's OK to mix and match. AMD still wants to be able to sell you the other part of your computer even if you don't choose their CPU or GPU, so they make everything compatible with the competition. And Nvidia only makes GPU's, and could care less what CPU you choose to pair with the Nvidia GPU you purchase.

As far as Apple goes, they've historically preferred ATI graphics, and to a certain extent, I think that continues, even though ATI is part of AMD now. They use a lot of Nvidia GPUs these days though, too. The only reason they haven't made anything with AMD CPU's yet is because they believe that the better performance of Intel CPUs is important for their clientele. They nearly cut a deal for AMD APU's for their laptops last year, and I wouldn't be surprised if they went that route with Trinity at some point.

It would be difficult for them to even favor one brand of board over another.

PCI-E is a strict specification that both the cards and the boards have to adhere to if anyone is to use them. The only way compatibility could be tampered with is through drivers, and such restrictions would be both obvious and would cost market share for anyone attempting it.

what is refered to as a bottleneck around here is this.

when a gpu gets less FPS on one cpu compaired to another for isnstance

my GTX 570 maxs out at 110FPS when I run it with my FX 8150 same gpu in a I5 2500K gets 124Fps so the fx is bottle necked by 14FPS
