Don't forget to turn off system restore and delete all old restore points. Then as others have said. Run all system scans in safe mode.
But I've seen system restore get me and many others before too.

If it were something rooted deep enough that MBAM, ComboFix, and MSE can't get rid of, I'd honestly take the lazy way out too at that point. Its pretty bad when its faster to reinstall everything (even 600GB worth of Steam games), than it is to troubleshoot the issue.

I use a small ssd for OS..If it mucks up..like the current one just tried to do..I have no qualms about wiping it and getting a good Install.

When everything fails, a virgin install is far from the lazy way...its the only way.

I have beat so many of these bugs, you can usually identify them and google your way into finding its hiding place in the registry & hdd...but you need a working computer other then the one your working on.

you can have malwarbytes scan the harddrive on safemode (safemode only loads needed components of windows but not the virus),

if you have already tried that,

backup needed files to anything but another "working" computer (it will spread the infection). then when inserting the flash drive (or w/e) your using, scan it before you pull any files off.

and just do a fresh install

I'm not sure about that. Its not like he hasn't tried everything in the book. In addition, I hate reinstalling Windows. It can take forever. Reinstalling Windows for me is always the last resort because most of the time watching a virus/spyware killer software do its job is a lot easier than spending hours reinstalling Windows, software and drivers. Im glad the following people can agree. thumb.gif

A lot of times you'll save an exponential amount of time going this route. There's no 100% guaranteed way to ensure a box does not remain some level of compromised after a malware infection of one or more entities, aside from a reformat. Simply labeling the most secure solution as 'lazy' is fairly short-sighted.
