If you put the Xeon in a 775 mobo and it worked that would pretty much solve that then, and I assume it was non ECC ram which would solve that. So I guess you could make two computers out of these, but I dont know what you plan on doing with a dual cpu system...

I got a crappy 775 ECS motherboard that worked with My G.Skill HZ normal DDR and I tossed the chip in it. It booted just fine. I just needed to know what ECC I needed and if it needed to be FB. My guess is I need FB ECC DDR2 and Slectodude says I do so I am going with that. Does anyone know if I will be better off with 2x512 or 1x1gb stick?

My plans with this rid: Using it as a normal system (yes gaming too) and folding. I've already got the most expensive parts and they were free, so why not?

I am trying to identify the motherboard in your other thread... can't find a match. Is anything printed on it?

Regarding PSU, you'll need something that's EPS compatible. I think a 610W or 750W PC Power & Cooling Silencer would be the best choice indeed. Since it's only going to be single graphics, I think the 610W should be enough, but you might as well splurge for the heavier 750W version.

Regarding RAM, I'd get either of these Kingston kits:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...k=&srchInDesc=

The choice depends on the FSB of the CPUs. If the FSP is 200MHz, DDR2 400 should be enough. However, the price difference is not that much, so you can get the faster RAM.. just to be sure. All Dual Socket 771 boards I saw support up to DDR2 667 speeds.

I'm thinking I need fully buffered RAM.

He was some random guy I was buying something from that just filled my arms with high end samples and sent me off. I had sent him an email on Friday and I haven't heard back from him, so I sent him another today.

I don't know what he did at Intel, but from just talking to him he seems to get his terms mixed up and doesn't exactly answer questions correctly. He was nice and all, but I think he may be a little off...

Well let me rephrase that. He was supposed to email me on Monday when he checked into some stuff. He answered a bunch of questions last week and he had a HUGE server and a server business. I dunoo man, I think he may just have zero people skills. I still don't really know what to think of it to be honest with you.

I dont know how that would work as the the HZ's are DDR and I assume that a skt775 would be DDR2 since the beginning? Man am I confused. I guess if you got it running, maybe get it going and run CPU-Z and that might give some more mobo info.

Yea I was just being sarcastic when I said that, but it is completely possible... It's doubtful however. Did he even give you his name or anything or his company?
