The truth of the matter is, we wouldn't have all this games to play with now if not for the wider reach of the consoles, so think about that for a minute.
I'm pretty happy with how BFBC2 and BF3 turned out, BF3 is the best MP shooter I've played IMO (including BF2), BFBC2 was pretty epic as well (over ~1100 hrs logged according to Steam).. the only grudge I hold against DICE is that they haven't confirmed the development of a 2143 title lol.
The thing is, when people make these arguments along the lines of "What did you expect them to do, they're a corporation, they have to make money, etc. etc." it seems to overlook the fact that as a corollary, I am a consumer, and I can choose to have a certain opinion about a product and about the conduct of a corporation and from that opinion decide whether or not to give them my further business.
Anyone who claims that Battlefield 3's handling is just a case of a corporation struggling to make money in the face of PC piracy clearly hasn't been paying enough attention to what has been going on. Battlefield 3 has been commercialized and streamlined to make as much money as possible and absent quality and complexity any other principle besides "as much $$$ as possible any way we can do it."
Companies do not have to behave this way to be profitable. Valve does not behave this way (or at the least to anywhere near the same degree) for example. And as a consumer, I can factor in the conduct of a company as well as the quality of their product in determining whether or not I will be giving them my business. As far as I am concerned, EA has ruined the Battlefield series and I do all I can to avoid buying games from them in the future. (This is completely valid even from the perspective of "well they're a corporation they can do whatever they want as long as it's to make money" point of view.)
