Question: Corsair H80 in Fortress FT02?

Hi All,

New here but not too new to case building but far from having the knowledge of some of people here. I figured this was the right place to ask this question.

I have a Silverstone Fortress SST-FT02 and with a new build im considering using a Corsair Hydro H80 for cooling the CPU. The rest of the build is as follows...

Asus P8Z77 MoBo
Ivy Bride Core i7 3770k
16/32GB 1600MHz DDR3 RAM (not choose make, spec etc yet)
ATi Radeon HD6870 (will probably update this after a year or so)
2x SSD and 1x HHD

The spec is a bit irrelevant as it should keep itself cool enough in the FT02 case.

However i was wondering if any of you guys could tell me what removing the stock "golf ball" 120mm exhaust fan and replacing it with the Corsair Hydro H80 radiator/heatsink and fan in it's place would do to the overall cooling performance of the case?

Any one who has this set up is more than welcome to give their feedback/reviews etc as that would help lots smile.gif but obviously all replies welcomed. If anyone has any real world test results of the difference or a link to a thread/review about such a setup would be great too.

Hope someone can help and i look forward to your replies. Thank in advance.

I don't have any experience with said case but I have had my fan configuration setup to where the only exhaust is through a radiator and it worked flawlessly, it was actually with an H100. Your setup will not be affected in any noticeable way. thumb.gif

It wouldn't do much as long as you are still exhausting through the top.

As long as you keep the flow go from the bottom 3x 180mm (Intake) moving upwards to the top (exhaust) it shouldn't affect the cooling at all, especially since some of the air is vented through the expansion slots, the golf-ball fan just sucks out the air a bit more - you could use the fan on the radiator to increase effect.

the net effect is your system will be louder smile.gif that's about it. you'd be better off going with a quality air cooler like d14/SA/phantek.

Would replacing the stock fans on the H80 with quieter fans not help keep the noise levels down?
