Dimm slot A1 & A2 issue should I return the mainboard?

I just bought an used mainboard Asus M4A88TD-M Evo from ebay and the dimm slots 1 & 2 don't work. I've cleaned it from dust and tried every combinations like A1 and B1 or A2 and B2 and so on but everytime I put a stick into slot 1 or 2 the pc won't boot and the red light is on? My sticks works in slot 3 & 4 but then I don't have dual channel!!! Should I return the mainboard and is dual channel worth it? I've payed a good price but I'm feeling bad. The seller is an IT professional.

Explain the situation exactly like you just did to your seller. He should then offer you a solution on which you can make a decision on.
If you are unhappy with his solution then keep the mobo and run single channel. However my bet is that he will offer a full refund or replacement.

I'd return it for something that is fully functional, you may not find all the issues till later on down the road after it's too late to return. That's my 2cents.gif

Can it be a bios problem? Sometimes it's working with a stick in a1 slot but only for a few second I can boot into the bios or into windows then the pc freezes? I don't have any problem with slot b1 and b2?

well right now might be a good time to run memtest or something like that with one stick at a tme in the better slots to verify that all memory is working correctly. Definitely sounds like the board tho. only one way to be sure. That way when you contact the seller its already verified. I guess if the memory tests out ok on the better slots you could run it in both a1 b1 depending on the motherboard.. check the manual first.

just to clarify i meant try and run memtest in dual mode from a boot disk. b1 first for each piece then if checks out ok try dual channel off a boot disk. or windows mem tester. ( sorry i cant rmemember the name. )

I don't think memtest will work here because I can only boot a few seconds into the pc. I will try to raise my voltage and also it doesn't work with a single stick in A1 or A2 in single channel? BTW. my sticks are working 100% in my old mobo with dual channel and 1600 Mhz.

have you checked your processor for bent or broken pins? It was the problem for my board once. Try another cpu first before RMA'ing it thumb.gif
