2 Ram Slots vs 4 Ram Slots w/ CPU OC

Thread Starter
In advance I apologize for my ignorance as RAM is my weakest point.

My question is whether occupying all RAM slots on a Z77 board as opposed to 2 slots will affect the CPU's overclock? I want to push the CPU's 24/7 OC as hard as I possibly can e.g. subzero. I plan on using Trident X RAM. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I believe that was just a problem on older LGA775 AND AM2 chipsets back in the day.

In my experience when adding more RAM to slots on a 1366 mobo I needed to increase the voltage to my cpu. You may have to increase your voltage when overclocking.

I am noticing the same phenomenon on my LGA1366 X58 i7 920

I think the general assumption is that if you can use 2 vs. 4 slots then it will be easier overall. Most of the time it is usually due to the extra voltage/added variables of more RAM in the system. For example, if you have 3 good overclock-able sticks, and one is stubborn, then it will be dragged down by that single stick. Not to mention, it will be easier to troubleshoot 2 vs. 4.
