Bios Backup Loop

Thread Starter
Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3
AMD fx-6100

It gives me a "begin to update backup bios to latest version"

And it loops. I can enter bios and mobo options.

When it first did it, I discovered that my boot order changed. I fixed that to my SSD and it started up. Shut down, went to work. Started back up after work, looping again, boot order still SSD primary, but won't load OS.

It's detecting my three drives just fine. I have not done a bios update recently.

Does it matter what my SSD is in the IDE channel? It's currently at IDE channel 2 master, but boot priority 1.

Any help would be great.

Update:

I changed boot SSD to IDE channel master 1 and restarted. Saw the typical MOBO splash screen and decided to hit TAB to go into the menu to look around. After some menus that I cannot remember, the OS loaded up.

Getting there is not the issue. It is WHY it is doing what it is doing. And if it might do it again.

Frustrating.

After booting twice normally, I thought that the issue might have been resolved.

F9 xpress recovery press does not work.
TAB to get into post does not work.

After power on, it gives me this, like normal:

But then this:

Help!

Alt + F12 doesn't work.
Removing cmos battery, waiting... Then choosing either "last known good" and "default" bios doesn’t work.

I hope that I don't have to RMA it.

Come on guys... No ideas?

I am curious, which BIOS revision are you using? While I was testing for lower RAM timings on my UD3 recently, that exact same thing happened. BIOS version F10 was what I was testing with.

A possible way to fix this, which worked for me. Take the battery out, unplug everything and let it sit for a good 20 minutes. Now, plug the power, video and keyboard in, and make sure that the power switch is OFF. Press and hold the power button on your case and count to 3, while holding the power button, flick the PSU switch to ON. There will be a slight delay and the system will attempt to boot, keep holding the power button until it shuts back down. Don't let go.

When it shuts back down, turn the PSU switch to OFF, and wait for 5 or so minutes. Press and hold the power button again for a few seconds, let go, and then turn the PSU swtich back on.

Attempt to boot as normal from there, and you should get a "MAIN BIOS CHECKSUM ERROR" and dual BIOS will kick in. As it was in my boards case, it never actually wrote to the backup BIOS, it was just stuck in a loop trying to boot at 6-6-6-15 (1333) and clearing the CMOS wouldn't fix the looping. YMMV, but best wishes.thumb.gif

Interesting. I will try that. My bios is latter part of last year, off the top of my head.

Your SSD is supposed to be in AHCI not IDE, your speeds will vary greatly http://forum.crucial.com/t5/Solid-State-Drives-SSD/Why-do-i-need-AHCI-with-a-SSD-Drive-Guide-Here-Crucial-AHCI-vs/td-p/57078
Also for my SSD's I couldn't get into windows nearly half of every time I turned on my computer. I turned OFF splash screen in bios and increasing the post timer from 5 seconds to 10 seconds and voila my SSD's were able to start their controllers in time and I haven't had an issue since.

Updates... I tried all recommendations. Even the lengthy dual boot method.

I don't even know if I can get into the dual boot screen.

I see a "load cmos settings from...."

Default and last known good.
Neither do anything.

Loops again.
