Modding a BL82 with clears

Thread Starter
Hey guys, just got a nice little TG3 from the postman today. MX Clears with green leds, touchpad. Very rugged build like my BL82. This is my first experience with a full board with clears and it feels great, but unfortunately I cant use it on my pc because it has a mini-din 8 connector instead of the usual mini din 6 PS/2. I was just wondering if there were any PS/2 or even USB adapters for this connector? Im even open to re-terminating the 8-pin connector to a 6-pin if that's even possible. I don't mind losing the touchpad functionality as ill only use the keyboard anyway. If there is no hope then I guess ill end up just transplanting the switches onto the BL82 or a Meka G1 biggrin.gif.

edit 7/15- Can't seem to find any cheap solutions to using the board on my PC, so ive decided to just transfer the switches onto my BL82. So far got 10 switches out. Thinking of replacing the red leds of the BL82 with white ones.

Some pics -

The board had some plastic over the switches, I guess to keep dirt out

Well, here's an update if anyone cares tongue.gif

Im almost done with the transfer, got all of the clears out of the TG3 "E3224" and most of the blacks out of the BL82, except for one last row. Should be able to completely finish the transfer tonight, and the only thing left will be to wait for the new leds to come in the mail and I can start soldering. Can't wait to get this thing up and running wheee.gif

Here's how the BL82's looking so far-

Hmmm..wonder what connector that PoPo keyboard uses?

Nice mod! Sandy55 did a TG3 BL82 led switch swap. PITA he said.

Hey guys, here is the finished product cheers.gif

The leds are dimmer than the old red ones; I couldnt manage to get to the resistors under the plate in order to change them to the correct value for the white leds without breaking something. Theyre plenty bright enough to see in daylight though.

@Ripster - Thanks for the links, I'll be sure to enter thumb.gif. Also it looks like that first link got censored; is that the one with the Mx Blue swap and amber leds? That one was my main inspiration for the swap biggrin.gif; im gonna have to agree w/ Sandy there that it was a pita, I dont think I want to go through the process again without the right tools lol

EDIT - Also if anyone is curious where I got the TG3 donor board, there is a guy on ebay selling these, apparently en masse, for a pretty reasonable price ($27.50 buy-it-now plus shipping charges). Look for user iambutchb2

Nice mod! Yeah, post it you know where.

Blazingly bright LED backlit keyboards are overrated anyway.

Turned out so nice. I, too, like the subtle LEDs more than those that blind you if you look down.

Sorry for resurrecting an old thread but there is a way you can purchase the TIG BL82 with Cherry mx Clears switches right now new on ebay from user "iesv" just search for "Cherry TG3 BL82", it is $49 + shipping but will require volt mod since it requires 12v for the leds.
