Hello, a little ram problem :/

Thread Starter
first of all these are the specs..

CPU: i5 2500k
MOBO: ASUS P8Z68-V/GEN3
RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB@1866mhz
PSU: Corsair GS800w
GPU: a 5770 :'(
CPU cooler: Corsair h80

Well the ram should be at 1866 but it's not. It's at 1333..

So it didn't seem hard enough to change the frequency, I went into the bios, changed it to 1866 so I saved and re-booted. It loaded the windows for like 20 seconds, and then BAM a blue screen :/

So now IDK what to do, please help ?

Loosen timings, and increase voltage would be the first steps to getting the RAM stable. You're going to want the following information at your fingertips:

Max Recommended voltage of your ram
Recommended timings @ each freqency (CPUz should help with this)
Make sure your CPU and motherboard can handle the speeds you're trying to run the RAM at (sorry, I'm pressed for time right now, can't look this up for you)

Also might want to look into overclocking your Northbridge and its' voltage to get it stable.

Use memtest when you think you're stable.

Yeah, try increasing the ram voltage and make sure your timings are correct. According to Corsair specs for that ram, voltage should be 1.5 volts and timings should be 9-10-9-24.

How are you at 824MHz? Are you screwing with your BCLK, because that's the only way I know of to get such an odd frequency, and that will absolutely cause you to crash.

Just set the RAM to XMP and call it a day if you don't know what you're doing.

The BCLK is set to auto now, I had the ASUS TPU running which jacked it up to 103 :/

But I added the 1866 again and the new DIMM's @ 9-10-9-24.

It's running fine now, thank you for this REALLY FAST response smile.gif

I have a cpu OC'ing question/issue as well but I will but it to the correct thread, later today. But thank you for this help smile.gif

That's better. Definitely keep that BCLK to 100MHz. If you have the option, lock your PCIe clock to 100MHz as well.

To keep things simple, you can always just use XMP mode for your RAM (its somewhere in your UEFI). That just sets the RAM to the proper programmed specs that the RAM has. In your case, 1866 at 9-10-9-24, 1.50v.

Just a question if the BCLK is higher than 100. What will it do ?

Well, SOMETIMES you can get away with very light BCLK increases. I've gotten 103.1 to run stable for me before. The problem is that it doesn't go very far at all, and if you have an SSD, it makes it even worse when you increase it. It's unstable, and it'll corrupt your OS.

You can tinker with it SLIGHTLY and see if you can get it to run stable. You might get lucky and get like 950 out of your RAM or so by doing that (DDR3-1900). But honestly, its just not worth the headaches it causes you when overclocking.
