Multiple brands?

Thread Starter
I am running a system and am looking to upgrade my RAM. I have 4GB Corsair Vengeance RAM, and wanted to upgrade. I was looking at 8GB kits, but the Vengeance kits are $20 more than others, like the Patriot Gamer 2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820220558 at the same settings. Do I need to spend the extra $20 or will other kits work?

Brand does not matter. Just be sure the speed matches or exceeds the speed you're system needs right now

Ok, thats what I thought. And the voltage needs to match too, right?
And i'm assuming they'll have to run at the slowest CAS that either kit supports.

Voltages shouldn't be an issue as long as each pair is set to the correct voltage in the BIOS. The motherboard will automatically scale the sets to match in terms of speed, but I don't think the timings make a difference as far as compatibility.

Yeah, but if one was 8-8-8-24 and one was 9-9-9-24, they'd both have to run at 9-9-9-24, right?

Ok, and I'd need another 1.5v set to match mine. My board only has one setting for both sets.
