[Build Log] "Maiden America" - A Military Themed Corsair C70 Build - Page 4

Thanks!

Nice find! I looked through a lot of their water slide & vinyl decals, but I'll be honest and say that I didn't see the quality I'm looking for. Seemed like a lot of PhotoShopping... Which is by no means a bad thing, but it's just not the quality or the "vintage" feel that I'm looking for. Plus most of them were only about 5" big, whereas I'm needing something more like 12".

Corsair was running a 40%-off sale on their sleeved modular cable sets (Since I'm planning to get that AX850 down the road) plus the "10cable" promo code from here knocked it down to like $48 shipped.  I'm trying to save money where I can, and between this and that Kingston SSD, I'm not doing too bad. haha thumb.gif

New SSD arrived! Postal worker wasn't very nice to the envelope but no damage to it that I found. Checked that it was recognized by Windows and then pulled it until I'm ready to install the new OS on it. Gonna need to use some type of SSD Tweaker once it's loaded I assume. Night OCN! biggrin.gif

I drool over your build, and it means a lot for you to say that.  Thanks for the support!thumbsupsmiley.png

I am hoping to keep the cell phone pictures to a minimum and really put forth my best ones, but sometimes (like last night with the SSD) I'm just too excited to stop and take the time to setup for nicer shots...biggrin.gif

I'll have time this weekend to make a better effort, plus I may be replacing the side window, and will need to document that anyways... wink.gif

Got my 5.25" drive bay adapters (so they'll hold 3.5" drives) in the mail today.  I don't have much data to store, and this 120GB SSD plus 1TB of HDD storage is more than enough.  In light of this, I opted to remove both hard drive cages from my case in order to increase airflow and make it more open.  I'll replace these photos with better quality shots on Saturday when I have more free time, but for the time being here are 2 to give you an idea of what it looks like

For $20, these adapters from Newegg do exactly what I need them to do. I'm very pleased.  (And for those of you astute enough to notice, yes, I do only have 2 SATA cables, so my DVD drive is not connected for the time being)

I also installed Windows 7 onto the new SSD, and decided to run some side by side benchmarks with my 1TB drive, just to see the difference.  Note that this ASRock motherboard only supports SATA II, so these are running at 3Gbit/s instead of 6Gbit/s.  Still an amazing difference launching programs in Windows, and loading between instances in GW2 (only testing I've managed to do so far)

Pretty much doubled my read/write speeds, and that's on SATA II. However you want to phrase it, I'm blown away. SSD has converted another believer. thumb.gif

I'm loving the file transfer speed, and how "snappy" windows feels now. Can't wait to have a new 3570K doing all the work, it'll be even better biggrin.gif

Got some questions about AMD versus Intel for this build, especially after looking at prices on 3770K/Z77 vs FX-8150/990FX combos.  Lots of saved cash to put towards GPU and such.

Asked in a separate thread so as to not clutter this one up: http://www.overclock.net/t/1310751/intel-or-amd-for-my-current-build/0_50

Thanks guys!

Made an attempt to replace the factory side window with a solid piece of acrylic.  Didn't go so well... mad.gif

I don't know if it was too thin, or I wasn't drilling it correctly... but it cracked in two places.  Not a huge loss, but still frustrating. I was using a slow speed, not much pressure, and striving to stay at a right angle to the workpiece... Eh, I shall succeed eventually!

acrylic sucks to work with. I have never had a good time working with it. I am sure someone will chime in about what kind of drill bits to use.Good luck
