New guy to Phase Changing Cooling

Thread Starter
Alright, here's the deal, I'm new to Phase Changing and I want to build a unit, I don't have the money for the fancy ones, but I do have a working mini fridge, I've already cut away the compressor and the condenser, and I am currently working on building the evaporator, but, I've run into a few questions, such as,
What could I use to build the evaporator block? My guess would be a block of copper, but where could I find a block of copper?
Also, what do I need to insulate?
I've already insulated the CPU due to the fact that I am running air-conditioned air into my rig and I didn't want to take any chances on condensation frying the CPU up.
And I was also curious if it was possible to tie into the piping and make another cooling block for my GPU without having a second compressor. It's not necessary, but I am curious if it's possible. Any help would be much appreciated!
Also, cheaper the better, I'm on a pretty strict budget. Lol.
Thanks again! smile.gif

Hey there,
The first issue you'll probably find is not the copper (which by the way, ebay or www.onlinemetals.com etc), but that the compressor you've selected is tiny. It probably will not hold the load well, or better than 100 watts or so, much less a second evaporator. But you can use this as a test model to learn how to braze, build, and charge!

Hmmm, alright, well I can get the copper, which I do appreciate the link biggrin.gif also, what do you mean it wouldn't hold the load? Like, it wouldn't keep cold enough? It is a good experiment either way, so, I suppose I'll keep working on it. tongue.gif I'll upload pics in a little while of the compressor and the setup its self, of course without the evaporator attached, tell me what y'all think about it. I appreciate it you guys!
