Noob to building, first desktop build (gaming) - Page 3

You said you would want to overclock so i chose the 2500K unlocked i5, kept the same 2tb HDD.
I have a OCZ Agility 3 60gb SSD for my windows drive and have no problems with it at all. I would recommend it for a fast SSD for someone on a budget (I chose the Vertex here because it is better and only a bit more expensive). Get what ever power supply you like as long as it is a good brand (Antec or Corsair) and it is about 500W or more. I chose a GTX 550 Ti just because its what you chose, but if you go for a cheaper processor and cheaper ram you could get a 7870 or a GTX 570 (like suggested above) and it would probably give you much better game performance smile.gif Any RAM will be fine even if it is only 1333mhz

And yes, using a solid state for your windows drive will drastically decrease boot times and increase the speed that applications open compared to using a HDD for your OS! (You will find you wont be able to fit many games on your solid state if you only get a 60GB one though, a 120 would be a better idea if you can afford it)

(these prices are from pccasegear.com, but if MSY has what you want in stock i would get it from them)

ALL parts from both Scorch's build and Mine are completely compatible and interchangeable. Adding an aftermarket heatsink/fan is quite easy and can be cheap as well. If you want to overclock for sure then you need a K series CPU such as the one Scorch recommended .

You would be just fine doing overclock and having an SSD but if you're gaming it's hard not to recommend a 120 GB SSD at their current prices and the size of games! The video card I recommended is a lot more powerful than the 550TI and slightly more powerful than the 7850. Power supplies are both good but I would go with the cheaper CX 500 as it still had headroom for overclocking and is cheaper.

Why are people suggesting a 550ti for a 900 dollar budget?!?!?!

Go with scorch's build its the best suggestion yet. 7850 is perfect GPU and the 3570k CPU is perfect.

I have a 3570k and a 7870 and it runs amazing! Definitely avoid last gen stuff if possible with that budget. You got the money so might as well go new gen, Runs faster. thumb.gif

this is probably a stupid question but under the diablo 3 supported graphics cards i couldn't find the HD 7850, will it still work?
