f@h gpu bogs computer a lot

Thread Starter
I started f@h cpu earlier last week and you never notice its running unless playing BF3. Last night I set it to gpu and cpu, and it slows the computer down to a crawl to where its almost unusable doing anything. I tried setting f@h priority to low using set priority, but it made no differance.

Am I doing something wrong or is the the norm when using gpu and cpu? Cpu temps never go over 60*c and gpu temps never go over over 66*C and ram use never goes over 25% while folding. Id like to fold with both but dont want to have to turn off f@h every time I want to use the computer. Gpu folding seems to give more points the cpu.

If this is the norm then I suppose I can turn gpu on when I go to work and at night, and leave it off when home. Thank you for any help

I have noticed that nvidia GPUs will often get really bogged down when number crunching. I have run both f@h and Boinc and in both cases the nvidias get really bogged down. Where as my radeon does not bog down to an unusable level. I am not entirely sure what causes this difference, possibly that the radeon will reserve a certain amount of GPU-time for the GUI. That being said, what you are experiencing is by no means abnormal.

Thank you for the information. Its fixed. I had to google how to get to aero settings, lol. I think it was on but I didn't have an aero theme selected so it wasn't activated. So I switched themes and now its working perfect.
