Best mouse for a cloth pad user?

Hey

I'm looking for a mouse that works well with a cloth pad. I noticed out of the mice I have opticals work the best, namely the Logitech MX518 but it has prediction/angle snapping that I don't care for. So that lead me to the G400 but I'm hearing it has a cheap build and has tracking issues above 800 DPI but how bad are they? I dont use much higher than 1000 at any obe time but just curious.
Also is the DPI configurable on this mouse - in other words the DPI on the steelseries kana is set and can't be changed and I don't want that so if I can't change it at all it's an instant deal breaker. Also I don't want acceleration on a mouse and apparently the G400 doesn't have that either?

Thanks guys

Depending on your grip preference there's a bunch of nice mice with the ADNS-3050 and 3090 sensor that work well on cloth pads. Zowie AM, Roccat Savu and upcoming Lua, CM Storm Recon and Spawn, Razer Deathadder and Abyssus (almost the same sensor) and many more I've probably forgot to mention. I don't know if the G400 has any specific problems (don't like the shape, which is why I'm not really interested in it) but it should work equally well, but to be sure check people's feedbacks about it first.

Tracking above 800dpi is mediocre, the tracking speeds are effectively halved and the cursor quality isn't very good once you set the dpi pretty high.
The drivers will allow you to change your dpi from 200-3600 by 50, I'm not sure if there's any performance impact from running a "non-standard" dpi step like 450 or 900. The mouse also lacks onboard memory so you need to have the drivers running if you want to be able to edit the dpi steps or change the mouse button binding.

There are tons of different mice that work decently on cloth, it all comes down to what you're looking for in a mouse (shape, size, weight, etc).

I have 2 of the original, ad while I like them, I find the tracking of the MX518 to be much smoother. For some reason the DA 'jumps' a bit while the 518 seems to be smooth as silk and crazy accurate. The reason I'm not crazy about still using it is because of its prediction/angle snapping.

Grip doesn't matter, I'll use any, claw, palm, finger, etc. I just want the most accurate sensor in a mouse without prediction and built in acceleration with configurable DPI, something thats set and CAN change. I had that with the Ikari laser, it was like an extension of my hand, crazy accurate. But like I said, build quality is horrible for $100US and won't get another. I really liked the ovation sensor in it. Weight isn't much of an issue either, I can basically get used to anything unless it's TOO light. I went from a G9 to a DA then Ikari then to a G700. Shape is though, I don't think I could use something like a RAT mouse.

I think the 3050 is a bit weak. S3888 and A3090 should share the same hardware with a different rom. wink.gif

Agree... but there seem to be people who prefer the CM Storm Recon to the Spawn that's why I felt like mentioning it.

So those are the sensors that I would be looking for in mice? I'm using your chart btw, awesome work. One mouse I noticed was missing was the steelseries xai though.

I thought the nova slider x600 looked cool along with its ceramic skates and had the ovation sensor in it but it can't be found anywhere.

I'm a Steelseries QcK user and I swore by the MX518 for a long time, till I got my sensei.

It's an expensive mouse though, and I got mine because I got a sweet deal. The G400 should be fine, I'm not too sure about the acceleration issue though.
