Pictures and Log Comments

The Kit has arrived. (Ignore the Sapphire 4890 graphics card, at this point I was still waiting on my GTX 670)
449

First Problem I had not forseen was that the case is not compatible with eATX motherboards like the Rampage IV, good thread here

421

I had screwed down the motherboard but it hit the case backplate in the lower left hand corner. The motherboard did screw done with it hitting the corner, but it had to flex quiet a bit, it had to go.
The motherboard tray is slightly recessed.

459

Hack saw this off bit off:

449

Then because of the recessed motherboard mounting plate and the extended form factor of the motherboad coupled with the positioning of the SATA ports the cables had difficultly connecting, so more of the tray had to go:

449

We cut up to where the pencilled in arrow is, sorry no pictures of the cut off piece afterwards:

449

The GTX 670 came in the post (it was BIG)
Next problem was that the top bracket wasn't allowing the card to slot fully home. This next picture show the dots on the bottom of the connector of the card, starting to raise up as it get's to the i/o panel. Thanks for some ideas from the guys in this thread.

I believe for some reason the card was sitting to high on the bracket, not allowing it to slot fully home.

By removing the bracket and trying it in all slots it worked without a problem. I then removed the motherboard and raised it on a metal washer under slightly larger motherboard standoffs (in fact it is alittle too high now, didn't really need the metal washers)

The next problem was that when the machine was on it's back the card would work fine. As soon as the machine was turned upright the motherboard would not find the card. After much head scratching it was found the rear head heavy graphics card druppage or SAS (Saggy Ass Syndrome) as causing this.

Jerry rigged a card board prop which seemed to correct the problem.

482

We then fitted a bracket for a more permanent solution

450

450

450

We noticed some sag and druppage from the colossal heat sink and fans (Noctua NH-D14)

450

The solution we came up with was to wedge some heavy'ish guage electrical wire in the top of the heatsink and attach it to the top of the case. The ends of the wire were stripped:

The Corsair Obsidian Series 550D case has a removable top panel which was not in use but allowed us to zip tie the suspension wires to the case easily.

redface.gif LOL. After the battle with the sag to get a connection, I'll take getto, d@mn I'd take grotto! True, maybe I'll slim down the piece of wood and paint it silver or black, going to get to OC'ing tomorrow.
