[Reuters] Scientists see AIDS vaccine within reach after decades - Page 5

The parts of the world producing all of the scientific advances for humanity aren't overpopulated and have populations in decline (without immigration to shore up the numbers) so why would they care about overpopulation when deciding what to research? Should scientists have worried about modern medicine and modern agriculture enabling massive overpopulation in africa and asia as well?

We can't force other cultures not to be backwards so why would we limit ourselves because of their ignorance?

I approve of new vaccines. I don't approve of all the money blown on aids research when it only effects a small number of people (in our country), most of whom got it through their own stupidity. Use the money for diseases that actually effect a lot of people. Aids is like a disease celebrity. It gets way more attention then it should.

Honorable mention: Quagmire in the future keeps on getting it again and again...

You just said that a disease gets more attention than it should.... ***

I hope I live long enough to witness the cure for AIDS. Because that will be the tip of the ice berg, in medical technology in a long time. This disease has been around for too long without a cure. Seeing it finally get beating will be like putting a man on the moon all over again. This vaccine is just one step closer.

Yup, advances and cures in any disease are great. No two ways about it. People are morons for thinking otherwise.

Thank you for scaring me!

My university requires HPV vaccinations before you can attend. Now I'm not sure how well the vaccinations protect you from the virus.

It's mostly an internet tough guy phenomenon.

"Don't cure disease X because we need population control!" Either that or, "I know what's best for other people and I decide what their life is worth while sitting behind my computer."

Let's see what happens if they or one of their loved ones gets the disease. It'll be a completely different tune then.

Using a disease such as AIDS for population control is just not effective enough. Now if we get a bubonic plague run going of a smallpox epedemic started, now that is going to take out some population. One part of the body that there is still a lot of contoversy about how things work and when to say things are not working right is the gastrointestinal system.I am battling pancreatic issues and each doctor I see uses a different set of parameters to judge the level of "illness".I am at the beginning of what took Steve Jobs out and I am trying to not make the treatment mistakes he made (he delayed treatment for a very long time)R.I.P Steve.

What does finding a cure for a disease have anything to do with population control?

I approve of new vaccines. I don't approve of all the money blown on aids research when it only effects a small number of people (in our country), most of whom got it through their own stupidity.
What about in other countries?
