[Reuters] Scientists see AIDS vaccine within reach after decades - Page 6

How exactly do they test a vaccine for AIDS, give it so someone who is not HIV positive and make them sleep with an HIV positive person and see what happens?
That'll work...

I'm sure its the same old monkey business. Inject a monkey with the vaccine and then inject them with the AIDS virus. Tho im sure they do more with blood samples now then actually infecting anything.

You can get an idea about vaccine testing when people are both scared and desperate if you read up on the first polio vaccine usage back in the mid/late 50's.Poilo was such a tremendous problem some of the testing safety standards were loosened up.There was a group that did get polio from the early vaccine. The problem was traced to issues in vaccine quality control.

No like cancer, like heart disease, like diabetes. Aids is a minor disease in first world countries that effects very small numbers of people. Other diseases are far more prevalent and inflict much greater hardship and suffering on our people. We should be devoting less resources to AIDs research and instead putting more into those other diseases. If you don't know any junkies or crazy dangerous sex addicts then chances are you don't know anyone with aids. But we all know people with cancer, who have heart disease, and who have diabetes.

Aid's should be researched. It should be cured. However it should be a low priority (for the first world) when compared to other much worse diseases (for us).

What? Why? "You're poor, so you should really die of AIDS anyways."?

So? We're capable of completely eradicating diseases. We eradicated Smallpox, cow plague, and soon that guinea worm parasite-thing(which is seriously gross by the way).
If a disease mutates, we will search to cure it. That's how we operate.

Man you need a rude awaking. Do you have any idea what it does to the human body. I've had 3 family members die because of it. My cousin (who was born with it) died last year because of something else that wasnt caught early enough. She never has a choice in getting it. So maybe you need to get educated quickly before speaking about something you know nothing about.

back to the topic.. I really hope they make it, and move faster onto cancer.
