for the ppl that dont use anti-virus programs
you dont need to visit a website to get trojans
if someone hates you or just wants to give you trojans, they can just ddos you and simply put a trojan underneat it
99% of the ppl that dont use a AV are dumb

I think you missed the point of my post. I completely agree with you and I was posting an ironic comment as evidenced by my struck-out text and the rolls-eyes smiley face. To me, saying you are immune to viruses on your computer is like saying you are immune to viruses IRL.

As IT I must say Norton done it again. Most of you speak about personal antivirus but imagine you have over 100 pc's and you get BSOD. So I must test every update before I can apply to my network. That cost time and money. Norton has a history to rushing out updates without testing them and I am very careful cause it happend before.

I insist that anti virus companies must check their updates but all I get is extra work in times where I am alone because budget is tide...

Never had anyone in your family killed by a drunk driver I see. I hope you never do. The best of drivers are vulnerable.

the worst one I had was about 3 years ago where Mcafee decided to detect a core windows startup file as a trojan and proceeded to remove it. THAT was a pain in the butt to fix on over 200 computers. It did earn me a lot of cash though!

If anything is overrated, it's the heuristic scanners in products like Norton, Avast and others that are incredibly vulnerable to false positives, whereas MSE almost always comes away with a perfect score in this area in the various AV comparatives.

With Endpoint - I've been using it since day 1, I've never once received a false positive. And the firewall has saved me quite a few times. I tried MSE, wasn't a fan. Though Dell of all places had McAfee Total Protection on sale for $10, so I have that on the laptop, so far it's not bad, and I really like the hidden "vault" partition which is also encrypted. It's a great feature for a mobile device.

I believe you earned a lot of cash if you are an independent but if work for a big company all you get is extra hours without pay....

We will switch to Kaspersky and hope we get better updates. But testing will remain...

Try the new "police" virus with MSE it goes thru like a hot knife in butter.

No, that's not what I mean. The point is that whitelisting specific exceptions beats a blacklist every time.

Cutting out Java plugins (not uninstalling the JVM), and blocking flash by default will stop two of the most common attack vectors. It's then up to you whether you allow specific instances to execute. Blocking JS by default helps prevent driveby and clickjack attacks. Once again, you don't have to leave everything blocked (whitelist the sites you believe are reasonably trustworthy).

Finally, the next most common infection vector is PDF files which is fixed by using a simple reader.

How does any of this affect the ability to view media? All this does is put the user in charge of security for a change.
