thank you for the reply, I have done this in the past however without this OC
should i run the bootable with the overclock or wouldnt it make a difference? I though that the method you mentioned was to check whether the sticks are faulty or not.

It will check for faults, as well as bad memory overclocks.  If you are keeping the memory at the same speeds and timings it shouldn't make a difference, but once you start changing timings, voltages, speeds, dividers, etc. anything could happen to create instabilities.

yh i am going to keep my sticks at stock setting, i dont think overclocking them has that much benefit for real time use.

I know how you feel, my 2700k is still not rock solid. I had it folding for about 36 hours straight and got a BSOD today about noon. 101 error, so I'll have to add some voltage and try again. I'm currently at 5.0GHz @ 1.500v, since I got to 36 hours, I'm hoping I can do 1.505 and find stablity, but we'll see.

Generally screen freezes are either GPU or RAM issues. Generally, an unstable CPU OC will cause a BSOD, not a freeze. I currently have a GTX460 that will not run if overclocked. If I try to run it OCed (at all), it will freeze like you have discribed. Do you have your GPU or RAM overclocked? If so, knock them back down to stock and try again. If you don't have them overclocked, try setting your RAM on setting lower (if you are running 1600, drop it down to 1333) and try again. If this gets it stable, you know its the RAM.

If you don't have either one overclocked (and lowering the RAM clocks doesn't work), I'm not sure what the problem may be, but I can tell you from experience, I've never seen an unstable CPU OC cause a system freeze (except at the Win boot screen, never once the OS is booted). There is always the possibility that I am wrong on this, I've just never seen it myself.

thanks for the input
my experience is the opposite lol, normally unstable OCs just freeze. it is only very rarely that I get a BSOD. But they could've been stable and one of the others may have caused it. I have tested my RAM and it is not faulty. I do have an overclocked setting for my GPU but when I fold it isn't OC'd, only OC'd when I open afterburner and apply the settings when I game.
