Real Hot Summer -- Top GPU hitting 84c

Thread Starter
I'm wondering if it's safe to game for multi hour sessions with my GPU at 84c. I'm running a pair of 560s in SLI.

Originally I thought there was a problem with the top card, as til just this past week they've been maintaining roughly equal temperatures (topping out around 74c)

When I saw that my top card was running 10c hotter than the other, and had hit max of 87c I decided to switch the cards.

Well.....the card that was hitting 87c in the top slot is now maxing at 74c in the bottom slot...and the top one is hitting 84c.

In theory, since it's fermi, they should be fine up to 96c.

84c is nothing to worry about; 90c+ is worrying. Cards can run hot - they're built that way.

Last summer I bought my first 580. After 2 weeks of playing BFBC2, my card started to artifact. Stock cooling and no overclock. Temps were around 80+. After my RMA I ran a fan profile and had it maxed at 100% while gaming.

87C is not going to hurt the card. It's not going to give it a 20 year lifetime either though. Friend has a pair of 8800GTX that run at 105C each and he games on them about 3-4 hours a day for a good 4 years now. Still working.

I wouldn't worry, GPUs are very tough and you aren't even exceeding the maximum recommended temp of the GPU.
