I ordered these LED's from ebay to do some mods to my wifes pc. What size resistors will i need to run them off 5v or 12. which would be better for say a string of 4 LED's?

They would require 5v.
Use 470 Ohm resistors with Blue, Green, White, U.V., Aqua & Pink LEDs.

Use 560 Ohm resistors with Red, Yellow & Orange LEDs.

If this is incorrect info pls tell me

Idk if your correct lol. i hope so. I will give this thread one more bump and if no one has a better suggestion im ordering 470 hahah.

So these HAVE to be run off the 5v wire correct?

with using a resister you will be able to use a 12v souce I think

ahh!! Now I am confused haha.

So 5v wiring i can run no resistor? how many can i run and series or parallel?

12v run the 470 and how many?

sorry I am asking so much. I got 20 in case i blow a few up and an old psu to play with but i would like to have a good idea before i cause a fire lol

That is a generic statement and does not meet the needs of all LEDs. Given the specs for OP's LEDs, these values are too high.

No, per the specs they run a forward voltage of 3.2-3.4v. If you run then straight off 5v, you will burn them up. However, you can run them off the 5v or 12v line with resisters.

You can run up to 3 in series on a 12v line with an 80ohm resister or 2 with a 186ohm resister. You can run as many as you want in parallel provided you give each string the right resister. With 5v, you can only run in parallel with a 60ohm resister on each LED.

If that didn't make sense, use this wizard http://led.linear1.org/led.wiz . Use 3.2v for the forward voltage and 30 for the forward current.

It will still work, but they won't be as bright. In fact they might be pretty dim, if they even come on at all.

I went ahead and ordered 68's from the chart it looked as if i could use then for 1-4 led's. Anyone want any 470's? lololol +repped
