Asus TF700T Transformer Pad Infinity! - Page 2

Ooh, didn't realize this had been released. Good news. thumb.gif

Right now, only the $599 64GB Gray is in stock at Amazon and it appears to be on pre-order everywhere else. Hmm, am I willing to spend $100 extra just to get it now? Decisions, decisions... thinking.gif

If all you really use your tablets for is reading, you probably will notice very little difference in the Screen. The text would appear to be a bit clearer and crisp but if I were you I'd get the TF300T it has great reviews and would probably suit you great, if the TF700 had taken much longer to be released I was going to get the TF300.

I actually disagree with this. The increased resolution is much more apparent with static images and text than they are with videos. Videos, you're basically moving from 720p to 1080p (and the increased clarity would only be apparent if you load it up with 1080p content).

But seriously, unless you have vision problems the difference in the text won't really make that huge of a difference in your reading experience that's all I meant. For proof look at the countless people that have say Kindle Fire's that have a screen with a 1024 X 600 res and the main purpose of them is for reading. I didn't say that you wouldn't see a difference in the quality of the text or the pictures, all I said to the other person is that since all he/she really used a tablet for was reading that the TF300 would probably be all that was needed. Why spend hundreds more just to get an HD screen mainly designed for video playback just to read a book or a magazine, that's all I was getting at.

If you're looking for somewhere to order them at TigerDirect.com is taking orders, but they are being shipped directly from Asus and they aren't shipping right away.

The Kindle Fire also has a 7" screen so despite the 1024x600 resolution, it has higher pixel density compared to the TF300. The Kindle Fire is 170ppi while the TF300 is only 149ppi. The higher pixel density really helps make text more legible. The better your eyesight, the more you'll appreciate the increase in pixel density. I have an iPad 2 and iPad 3. The iPad 2 feels like reading something printed with a dot matrix printer while the iPad 3 feels like reading something printed with a laser printer. For me, 200ppi is around the minimum acceptable density so I don't get bothered seeing individual pixels. Higher resolution also makes the TF700T more suitable for reading comics, technical PDF, etc. I actually just bought a Nexus 7 in lieu of the Galaxy Tab 2 7" primarily because of the higher pixel density/resolution on the Nexus 7.

In fact, the reason I'm getting the TF700T is for comic reading.

Wow you're must love your comics to spend $500 - $600 to read them! But I totally understand your reasoning when it comes to the comics, comics would look better with the higher pixel density. I also have to apologize I didn't realize that the pixel density on the TF300 was only 150, as I heard about the TF700 before I'd really done much research on it. However for those of us that don't have as a discerning an eye as you the TF300 would probably be a great solution especially for those that don't want to spend the $$$ on the Infinity, and it has received excellent consumer reviews.

I wasn't really awed by the ipad3 retina display. Even when looking at good photos it was clearly better but my mind was not blown as expected. I think the big thing with this tablet is that 1.6ghz quad core. I mean I was running at 1.4 on my tegra2 tf101 (many are running 1.6). I bet this could hit 2.0!

I spent close to $800 with taxes for a 64GB iPad (upgraded from iPad 2 to the iPad 3 for the retina display). I'd say $500-600 for the TF700 would be money well spent as I can now stop patronizing Apple's closed ecosystem. thumb.gif The ability to use inexpensive microSD cards is a major benefit. I really hated constantly having to juggle content on my iPad. With the TF700, I can easily carry a quarter terabyte worth of content in my wallet inside one of these (well, half a terabyte with 64GB cards but those are still too expensive to stock up tongue.gif):

By the way, decided to order the $500 TF700T 32GB from Amazon. It's supposed to ship in 3~4 weeks. I think I'll be fine waiting that long since I've got other devices I can read on, anyway. Also ordered a couple of 64GB microSD cards ($60ea). I've already got some 16GB and 32GB microSD cards lying around. These should provide plenty of content to keep me entertained even when I'm without wi-fi access for extended periods. smile.gif

Frankly, I don't really notice much of a difference between the iPad 2 and 3 when it comes to viewing high res pictures and videos, either. It's just when I'm dealing with line art/vector art and lots of text (e.g. browsing forums, reading ebooks) that the increased pixel density becomes noticeable. Instead of getting pixelated blurs, you get nice clean lines.

First off do you have a link for the Micro SD wallet thing from the picture? Cause that's an awesome idea, the only reason that I don't have more cards is for lack of an easy way to store and carry them.

Second here is why I said you have a very discerning eye, I spent a lot of time at a local store one day playing with the TF300 which as you pointed out has a rather low pixel density and the text never looked blurred or pixelated to me. However whey I played one of the demo videos on it I could totally tell that the screen had a lower resolution than I was used to, the picture was to soft and appeared grainy at times. So I guess we end up with a discerning eye for those things that we tend to focus on or that matter to us, as I've never been the biggest reader I probably don't pay as close attention to the text as you do. I love Audiobooks because I can listen and be doing something else at the same time as I find it very hard to sit in one place and stare at text, makes me sleepy biggrin.gif I will however compare my TF700 to the TF300 for text over the next couple of weeks and see if I can tell the difference in the text thumb.gif

Sure. Got it from Amazon. It's thicker than a credit card. Hmm, it's around the thickness of 2 or 3 cards stacked together.

True. To be more accurate, I can usually tell the difference when watching videos or looking at pictures. It's just that it's never really bothered me. With the measly 64GB storage maximum on the iPad (~59GB useable), I can't really use it for video unless I'm at home streaming over wi-fi (in which case, I'd rather watch on the HDTV).

Cool, thanks for the link!

Hey everyone mine has arrived, check the original post for my updates!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
