Increased Temps After BIOS Update

Thread Starter
I just updated the BIOS on my Asus P8Z77-V Pro, and the temperatures at max load increased by 5 degrees. Also the core speed and voltage both decreased. Before and after I tested using the default settings. I'm brand new to this stuff, but this doesn't seem like a good thing. Should I revert to the factory BIOS?
Without owning a z77 i dont know what the deal is but i would think an updated bios would now read more accurate temps but without a digital thermometer to temp probe your chip its a hard guess to what real core temp is. Core temp program is designed to tell cpu core temp and is more accurate under load than at idle

Ah gotcha. I'm using Real Temp GT 3.7, and I have my CPU multiplier set to 42. Under full load for 10 minutes it's fluctuating between 62-68 degrees and it's using 1.2 volts. The temperature seems kind of high but then again I don't really have much to compare it with.

I was also wondering, does anyone know why my RAM frequency is abysmally low according to CPU-Z? It's running at 1066 MHz, when it's supposed to be at 2133 MHz frown.gif
post #5 of 11
er..If it says 1066 in the cpu-z mem tab..it's 1066X2 ..which is 2133
as for your temps..(haven't done Ivy yet) but..I used to undervolt by about -.80 on offset for 4.2
very low LLC (maybe high)
cpu limit or whatever 110%
no pll overvoltage..

I feel like i'm pestering everyone on the forums tongue.gif but I really appreciate all the help I can get. Like I said in the new member forums i'm a TOTAL noob to overclocking, and i'm also rusty in the computer hardware area in general. I've been trying to find specifics on my Asus BIOS, but without much luck. There just seems to be ALOT of different settings that do essentially the same thing, and it seems to be auto adjusting the voltage as well. Then again maybe I have the voltage set to auto :-/

Are there any resources you could recommend to me, maybe a step-by-step tutorial specific to my motherboard? Or even something that explains what all the settings do?

One last thing! So you're saying that my memory is running at 2133 MHz? I have two sticks and they should be running on dual channel, so is that where the 1066 x2 comes from?

Use realtemp to monitor temps..
idk what cpu you have..probably either one could do 4.2 with less than 1.2v

DDR stands for Double Data Rate hence why it says 1066 and not 2133.

What are the fan settings in the bios? Is it possible that you've had the speed settings at 100% before the bios flash?
