Stands

I am a noob at this...what do I need?

For the trigger I am looking at this: PIXEL KING E-TTL II Wireless Flash Trigger for CANON It supports HSS, HyperSync, ETTL, use AA batteries, etc. Looks good to me from the reviews as well. Win? (Bought)

For stands I have no idea. I need a 8 foot plus stand and umbrella set up for my 430EXII and another stand and arm to hold a 40" reflector. I am going to be shooting outdoors, so I would just need a sandbag or something to keep the stands stable right?

I was suggested this for my needs so far:

What's your suggestions? smile.gif

Edit: All ordered.

SIngle Wescott Umbrella Kit

Reflector Holder

Wescott Single Light Stand

Now you can get a legit light stand or you can use an 'A' clamp and save money but lose some control.

How would I go about doing that, I have no idea on anything for this stuff. I have a shoot this weekend and need a stand and umbrella for my flash and a stand and arm for my reflector. Stand needs to be able to get up to about 8-9ft for the umbrella and the reflector is whateves.

yeah, I have a clamp arm for my reflector. Fits on one of my regular light stands. Promaster, I think it was like $40, idk, I got it as a gift. I've used it a grand total of zero times, but I haven't done outside portraits since before I got it, so..

I have heard good things about the Pixel Kings, but I've never used them myself. I've got a PW TT1- 2x TT5 kit that I haven't really used.. man, I really haven't shot alot lately.

I have some shots from Philly on my S95 that I will upload soon, and I'm shooting something at work (but I dont know if I can share those images or not)... but yeah, I really need to shoot some more, and soon.

Well, I just ordered the Pixel king kit. Hopefully I'll have no issue with it.

Still weary on that cowboy studio reflector holder...

What I personally use:

Manfrotto 5001B
Compact and light due to it's reverse folding legs

Photok Umbrella Shoe Adapter
One of the cheapest metal adapters I found

Wescott 43" Collapsible Optical White
Big enough for small groups of people, while being very compact when collapsed

---

As for wireless triggers:

Cactus V5
It runs on AAA and has fantastic range. With the optional shutter release cable
you can turn it into a remote. My only problem with it is the poor plastic locking ring that is hard to turn.

or

The gold standard pocketwizards.

If you are working on a budget and need a pair of decent working stands for unbrellas. I recommend the Impact house brand from B&H he have a 2 air cushioned light stand package that are good up to 8 ft but if you use an umbrella you will need sand bags or water jugs to hold the stand upright if there is any wind. ( use 1 gallon water jugs to pack in full and empty them and haul them out weighing a bit less).

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/425220-REG/Impact_DFUMK_Digital_Flash_Umbrella_Mount.html

The nice thing about this kit is that you can also use a boom arm to hold the reflector if needed.
