The default Microsoft AHCI driver should work fine and also supports TRIM.

My suggestion is that you install Intel's RSTe, the Microsoft generic AHCI driver will get you stuttering in games that need to stream a lot of data from the disk. I had stuttering in GTA: EFLC when I used Microsoft's generic AHCI driver. Also, you'll get a small boost in the benchmarks.

I have reason to believe it is not the RSTe that lead to the slowdown. I have to head to my internship today so I'll figure it out this evening, but I suspect it being due to the Samsung SSD Program that came with the SSD.

Would the Asmedia USB Drivers be a possibility as well?

What you can/should do is make a system image, system restore point, or what ever you like. Then install the Intel driver. Mess around for a while, reboot some times and if you have no issue install the ASMedia driver.

If you do have an issue at any point simply restore the image/restore point and your set.

When you install the Intel drivers it doesn't use the MS AHCI driver anymore. It is automatically disabled.

The drivers could slow down boot...someone else had an issue with nVidia's drivers before...like I said just do a few restarts every time you install a new driver.
