UPDATE: I purchased a 7870 OC from Gigabyte for $250. No need to help me any longer, but thanks for the help! thumb.gif

To overclock a GTX 570 to have the same or similar performance to a GTX 580? Just a simple question I want to know because I'm planning on purchasing a new VCard soon, and it's ether a GTX 570 or a GTX 580.

An overclocked 570 could out-preform a stock 580 but an overclocked 580 would be faster.

Easily possible. I had a 560TI 448 that i overclocked and it beat a stock 580 in 3dmark11 by a good 850 points. 570 probably has more overhead room than the 560ti448

Yes, it should be possible but (theres always a but) take care with your core and msofet heat. Keep in mind, not all cards are created equal, so what is possible in theory, may not work in reality.

Additional cooling would be advisable in either the form of increasing your fan profile or an extra 120 mm fan on the side to increase air flow. Aftermarket cooling may also be considered.

Alright thanks for the replies everyone smile.gif I'm planning on getting an ASUS GTX 570 DirectCUII card. (Yes I know, ASUS is turning out to be a bad company because of crappy customer support (and sometimes bad cards, but hey, all companies have bad cards), but I don't know why, but I wanna stick with what I had first in mind, which was ASUS and their DirectCUII cards).

Well ASUS isn't my favorite company (I don't have a favorite company, really tongue.gif) but I know they make one of the most top-quality/kick-ass gaming stuff, like motherboards, sound cards, etc.

And that triple-slot cooler on their GTX 570 (very huge, btw) makes me think they mean business, lol tongue.gif. It's such an attraction to me xD

A 570 is good value, but why not a 7850 or 7870? They're a bit cheaper? (It depends on where you are)
They run cooler, overclock more and at stock are the same speed as a 570. They also have 2GB of memory..

Otherwise the 570 sounds right for you! How much more is the 580 out of curiosity? I'd be betting it's not alot and maybe worth it? Even just for the extra 256mb of memory on it!

I was planning to get a 7850... but I just lost interest in them because of driver issues that have been happening. Some may say there isn't such things, others aren't so lucky and have to go through driver after driver. I don't want to take a chance, even if it's about 50 bucks cheaper. But a 7850 is still partially in my mind.

The 580 is on an offer I have for $280, same model: ASUS DirectCUII. But there are things I need to take in consideration, like it being used for about a year already.

EDIT: Also, this: http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/518?vs=549
The 570 vs. 7850 is pretty much a par-on-par battle, except when it comes to Battlefield 3 and Dirt 3 and Portal 2 and I think others. The 570 beats it, and I'm getting BF3 for my PC and I want to run it with max settings or at least 95% max settings (because there are circumstances, like AA or AF or FXAA)
