I am trying to overclock my 970 chip and I was reading this link:
http://en.community.dell.com/owners-club/alienware/f/3746/t/19339469.aspx
I have the alienware area 51 alx with the i7 970.
from my understanding there were 2 bios versions available: one with factory overclock options labeled levels 1-4 and one with no overclock presets ie you have to do them manually.... so i have the manual version and was running my settings as such:
vcore +160mv
DDR3 1.6v
IOH voltage 1.3v
QPI/uncore +200mv
and my cpu Blck @140x24 (from 133x24)
I got the corresponding increase to ~ 3376mhz but my temps were worry some, 79-80 with one core peaking at 83C so i put them back to factory.
my factory speed is 3.2 Ghz per core i would like to see a stable 3.8-4.0 if possible.
my cooling system is the factory alienware liquid cooling... looks like a smaller system (no reservoir)
Any ideas on what im doing wrong?
fairly new but have done some homework on this....any help appreciated
