[NVIDIA] Edit: Card's dead. Baking tips please? :D - Page 4

Update:

Taking the card apart, preparing it for baking during the daytime, I stumbled upon a genuine OMG moment.

452

Yes.
It delidded itself.

452

Chip's intact.

452

Though, I'm not sure how to proceed now, would baking be safe even with the heatspreader off?

Wipe off the TIM, and follow this guide.

I used it on an 8800GTS and it brought about 6 more months of use out of it!

Edit: Link would be good

Yes. Well, there's a lot of discrepancy with the guides on various forums and youtube. Some of them have the cards facing up and sometimes down. Which is the right way?

Also. I have an LPG oven. Would that even work?

Well they are called surface mount parts and not celling mount parts
I would say to have the card upright with the surface mount parts on the top, otherwise the solder will melt and all the parts will drop off
and I cannot imagine trying to put them all back.

have baked a few cards myself, all successfully so far, cliffnotes version:
strip the card of anything that can melt or burn @ 200C (all them glued on stickers are fine really, just need to worry about thermal paste/pads)
heat the oven to 200c
stick it in the oven for 10 mins, doesn't matter which side up as long as it isn't bending anything out of shape while the solder is weakened
take it out and let it cool, even better if you open the oven door and leave it to cool with the oven turned off
post #38 of 43
the way i've seen it done is to put the card on a baking sheet gpu chip facing upwards, set the oven to 365f, pop the card in for 10 mintues, after 10 minutes turn off the oven and crack the door a little, allow the card to cool for 20-30 minutes. this is what me and a buddy did to his GF 8800 to get it working again.

keep in mind that baking a videocard will stink up your place for a couple hours with that delicious burnt/melted electronic smell

So yeah, uninstall first in normal Windows mode.  Then enter Safe Mode and use Driver Sweeper.  Reboot when it prompts you and install an older NVIDIA driver (like a 200 series driver version instead of a 300 series).

NVIDIA Beta and Older Drivers

I don't know if this will be the solution, but hey - at least now you have the last version of Driver Sweeper that Phyxion will apparently ever make.
Hello TwoCables,

As you can see by our account name here, we represent Treexy and Driver Fusion.

There is no 'play' at all, Driver Sweeper is discontinued and Driver Fusion is it's successor. As you might already know, development on a complete rewrite of Driver Sweeper started more than a year ago. We initially wanted to continue the Driver Sweeper name, but because of the added functionality we decided to change the name to Driver Fusion. I can only suggest to stop using Driver Sweeper as Driver Fusion is a much and much better product. Several issues with Driver Sweeper occurred as you might remember, all of which are solved now thanks to the completely rewritten engine. The performance and stability is greatly enhanced and I can only recommend you to check out Driver Fusion, you won't be disappointed.

PS: I'm the original developer of Driver Sweeper and 100% involved in Driver Fusion, don't worry wink.gif

I'm surprised no one's commented at my chip delidding itself. biggrin.giftongue.gif

Thanks for all the responses people, I'm pretty certain that having the card with GPU side up is the right way to go. And yes, I do look forward to that delicious electronic smell.

All that's left now is finding an oven that's sophisticated enough for my needs as this LPG one may not be fit for baking GPUs with. thumb.gif
