@drk44

What do you plan to do with your Athlon X3? If only gaming, keep it at stock triplecore.
There is literally no gaming benefit in unlocking to a quadcore.
I tested Starcraft II at Ultra Settings on my athlon (starcraft II is a cpu demanding game)

Athlon II X3 3.3 Ghz = 79 FPS
Unlocked Phenom B55 X4 3.3 Ghz = 80 FPS

There is only 1 fps difference so the extra electricity used by the 4th core is wasted.
Only keep it at 4 cores if you will do video editing. Adobe premiere uses all the cores at 100% when rendering.

really? I thought more cores = high fps...

Maybe if I had a faster GPU like HD7970, there would be a big difference.
I only saw a big difference when video editing. Rendering videos with adobe premiere is a lot faster with 4 cores.

I can do some more game tests if you want, just tell me what game.

I agree with the gaming part. That's why i game with my tri at 4.2Ghz and only unlock when i video encode and stream. But could you do a bench of Max Payne 3 and Black Ops if possible? (I lost my copies).

Only games which make use of 4cores will benefit you if you have a 4core processor. Most games in this age do not use all 4cores. Apart from a very few games here and there most make use of only 3cores. As already stated the difference in fps is just 1fps between a tri core and quad core processor:D

I dont have maxpayne and BF3, but here is Dirt 3 and Skyrim benchmark. All tests done with my sig rig.
_____________________________________________
3 CORES
Skyrim 1 Minute Benchmark with FRAPS
Min: 36
Max: 39
Avg: 38.167

Dirt 3 triplemonitor
Min: 42.75
Avg: 54.88

_____________________________________________
4 CORES
Skyrim 1 Minute Benchmark with FRAPS
Min: 36
Max: 39
Avg: 37.633

Dirt 3 triplemonitor
Min: 44.51
Avg: 54.24

______________________________________________

*Skyrim is obviously too much to run at Ultra for a single HD6850 so there is no FPS gain at 4 cores. You can expect the same result with your HD6670.
*Dirt 3 gained 2 FPS minimum, not worth it for the extra electricity and heat of the 4th core

Skyrim Settings: 1600x900 FXAA 16xAF Ultra Setting
Dirt 3 Settings: 3648x900 2xAA Medium Preset Setting
