Is it worth getting this non-ref GTX670

Thread Starter
I'm on a very strict budget of £315, the cheapest reference gtx 670 i have found is between £285-£290 and the one I'm currently looking at is on amazon the other card i'm considering is the Palit jetstream which is £25 more expensive but obviously offers better clocks out of the box. Can anybody tell me if it is worth spending the extra money on the jetstream card? Will the faster clocks make any difference in games (1920x1200)? Or is the reference card better value for money?

The jetstream just has a different (pretty loud) cooler. I have the palit reference card and I'm replacing it with an Asus one because it gets pretty hot and loud, reference 670 heatsinks are poor quality.

I'd see if you could save up another 10-20 pounds and go for one of these http://www.scan.co.uk/products/2gb-asus-gtx-670-directcu-ii-28nm-pcie-30-%28x16%29-6008mhz-gddr5-gpu-915mhz-boost-980mhz-cores-1344-2xd

You can usually see them for cheaper on the today only page.

+1 for the Asus GTX 670 DirectCU II. Got mine running at 1299mhz and it's solid as a rock and very quiet too.

Should have mine by the end of the week. Would you say it's quieter than the arc midi fans?

I have these http://www.fractal-design.com/?view=product&category=4&prod=19 which are quieter than the stock arc midi fans and I can hear the 670 over them but I have an aggressive fan profile because my bedroom is always hot.

20% at 20 degrees, 80% at 70 degrees and 100% at 80 degrees.

Playiing Skyrim it stays at around 55 degrees at 60% and I can just about hear it.

Can anyone answer this question specifically:

will the faster clocks make any difference in games (1920x1200)? Or is the reference card better value for money?

Yes the faster clock speed will make a difference.

Reference card = cheapest but loud and hot

Jetstream = loud but higher clock

DCII = quiet and higher clock

Isn't the DCII the same as the reference boards in terms of clocks i.e 915MHz and boost 980MHz? I thought only the DCII TOP was the faster card?

Yes, faster clock speeds means better performance in games. The reference model is actually a worse value for the money. The heatsink looks like the one that came in the xbox360. The MSI PE is the best value in gtx670's for you and certainly a better value than any reference model. Over here in the states it's much easier to decide as the gigabyte is priced the same as the reference models and the EVGA FTW is $10-$20 more. You'll get better cooling and better performance out of the gigabyte model than a reference.

factory clock speeds are the same yes, but I can tell you from personal experience that the actual speeds the card will boost to under load are much higher. it also cools a lot better and has more headroom for overclocking.

Thanks for the help, unfortunately, although they look tempting the other cards are out of budget. I think i may hold fire for a while longer and hope for a price drop. Which ever way you slice it £300+ is a lot for a gpu.
