You can grab the MSI HD 7850 OC for USD 210 after rebate.

Thanks for the additional ideas. I looked at the 7870 - but often it seems that the 7950 can be had for a little bit more or less, depending on edition.
I like the idea of the 7850, but I guess I wonder if I'm going to get another 2 years out of it like my last card - might be a silly thought, but wonder if it is "enough" better that I wont think of replacing it soon. Certainly CF is out there, but that's not without concerns.

TO others, my concerns around CF (besides more power, etc.) is I'm running an mATX (Sivlerstone TJ-08E) case and the second card won't get nearly the same airflow as the first. Of course I could WC them both, but then that's even more money.

If you want to keep the card for 2+ years get the HD 7950 OC. MSI HD 7950 OC and Gigabyte HD 7950 OC are both attractive in their own ways. Gigabyte with its better cooler and MSI with its HD 7970 PCB and better price (after rebate) . Actually the most important thing you need to do is look at the card dimensions of both these cards and see if they will fit in your cabinet. If its fits then just go for the HD 7950 OC which you like . thumb.gif

Just curious, what does it mean that the MSI 7950 OC has the 7970 PCB in terms of why this is positive for those who have the card?

It has better power delivery (8 pin + 6 pin) and more power phases compared to other HD 7950s. It also has higher quality capacitors and other PCB components. This helps overclocking performance and stability. Even at the same clocks a better quality PCB will give better performance than a cheaper quality PCB.

Found this card for $310 after MIR so that's what I bought. A bit cheaper than the Gigabyte & well liked.
Thanks all. I'll post after it comes in.

MSI 7950 OC came in and installed. Thing runs great. Much quieter than the 6870 and frame rate never drops low enough that I can see it. Skyrim, Borderlands, Fallout, and Civ 5 all turned on high detail and it never sputters. Nor sure if I'm even going to bother OC it further. Great card.

Thanks to all who helped.
