Upon further inspection I noticed that the majority of my C: partition is, in fact, WinSxS. On WinDirStat screenshot, it's the whole upper left rectangle (limited by green rectangles on right side and yellow rectangles in lower right corner).

I tried using the "DISM /online /Cleanup-Image /SpSuperseded" command in command prompt (as admin) and it didn't clean anything up.

I'm getting desperate here. Why is that folder so damn big?

After more than hour of research on Google I still haven't found a solution. People keep mentioning some command prompt commands that don't do anything for me. Is there really no way to fix this?

I was amazed with Windows 7 at first, but after realizing that it keeps on growing without control I'm starting to change my mind, this is a huge disappointment.

There is options to disable it, or at least minimize it, if you went registry crazy. (Don't know if off top of head).

Try ccleaner... (Preferably buy it, full has the right feat's for u). There is a way to "wipe" free space, this actually does slightly reorganize/free up space. Do basic defrag. This on average total will recover 1-3%.

Any programs you have installed, I assume are on alt drive...

My typical config if I can spare, (no partitions, literal physical drives), c: 250gb (cheap, simple, does the job). and a 1tb for apps, further drives for data, etc.

Suggestions, try deleting all temp files, in IE (native to c: due to windows), and reset to defaults.

Check program files and program files (x86). See if you can uninstall/reinstall on alt drive incase you missed some progies.

You could always extend the partition in the admin tools of windows 7. Easy to do usually. Might actually help temporarily by increasing to 40 or 50gb approx.
