windows 7 installation problem : CD/DVD drive driver required ...

Hi ,

I am trying to install windows 7 professional edition x64 on my new rig that I just finished assembling

But it is giving me an error saying :

"A required CD/DVD drive device driver is missing. If you have a driver floppy disk, CD, DVD, or USB flash drive, please insert it now.

Note: if the windows installation media is in the CD/DVD drive, you can safely remove it for this step. "

......

The problem is , I don't even have a CD/DVD drive installed in the machine and I'm using a flash drive tto install windows , I don't get how it's asking for drivers for something I'm not using/don't have

You could also try this:
Make sure USB is first boot device in BIOS & when Windows is asking for driver, just click Cancel, You will be brought back to the welcome screen,
At the welcome screen, remove your USB drive, insert it back into DIFFERENT USB PORT,Click Install Now again. The installation process should be as usual.

This means your SATA ports aren't being recognized. This plagued my installation until I updated the BIOS.

If worse comes to worse, change SATA mode to IDE and try installing.

A little detail about your system components would be helpful, are you running a raid by any chance?

If you're running RAID mode you'll need to provide Windows setup a copy of the RAID controller drivers so that it can access and treat the drives as a RAID configured disk.

You'll have to temporarily connect a SATA rom drive or usb cd/dvd-rom drive in order to do this - or for a lot more effort/time you could slipstream the drivers for the RAID controller into your usb flash install copy.

Hopefully it's just the USB3 port issue like others have suggested.

Good luck!

Wow, who would've thought !!

This actually solved the issue , I was using the front panel usb 3.0 connector and I switched to front panel usb 2.0 connector and it also didn't work.. And since my mobo is a Maximus IV Extreme-Z all of the back panel usb's were 3.0 , so I had to install that thing that I thought was useless ( 2 usb 2.0 on a PCI slot )

And worked on one of them

Thank you richie and everyone else for replying I appreciate it
