I am currently at 1700 core and 1685 mem. I keep my volts at 1.25 as it just feels smoother.I have to lower my oc due to summer temp in my office is high

Why in the world is it so high? Yeah how are you keeping your card cooled? Also honestly I am a complete amateur at overclocking so more of a thorough explanation would be nice. What should i clock it at? I know that when they tested the card it achieved over 2k clocks.

As far as trixx goes I'll load a profile and it seems to instantly clock to that speed....is that bad?

It was a typo. He meant 1170 MHz.

All video cards are different. This is what YOU should find out by testing your overclocks.

2000? as in Megahertz? Where did you get that number from?

Loading the profile only sets up the clock settings it doesn't cause your graphics card to run at that speed unless you're stress testing it.

How hot does your card get?. Water cooled I take it
There's an "edit" button at the bottom of your posts, so you can go fix your typos and bad advices.

I saw those results on a video I was watching on youtube lol of course they were using liquid nitrogen yadda yadda yadda but they did achieve a "stable" clock. How EXACTALLY do I find out what my cards capable of?

Just so I dont have to start my own thread and since this should probably be known here anyway, what is the MAX safe Voltage for a 7970, I heard it was default mv+ 150 so mine would be 1049 default+150 1199mV max but is that correct or is that just bs? This is for air not under water or LN2.

have you read any guides on video card ocing? I would look through a few before you start.

I use Afterburner
Use 12.7 beta and afterburner 2.2.1. right click properties of afterburners exe and at to the end of the target -xcl (that extends the clock limits) you will need to restart the program then restart your comp.
Then you should be able to have full control of your ocing

not sure if these are still needed but if so add them to your windows directory.

For the sake of finding a stable oc i would say Absolute max 80 degree. Shoot for 75

What it may be capable of is subjective to cooling & voltage, on air you will have to OC it & find out, it will likely run into a temperature wall at some point. As you OC raising the clocks & voltage, you will raise the clocks & get artifacts or crash then add more voltage to stabilize it (watching temps of course), eventually raising the voltage will make it crash faster, that is the point it needs more cooling (cooler ambient or water, etc.) It should go farther yet with cooler temps & then hit a wall again. With a really golden card & great temps volt modding may be needed to reach the limit of what it is capable of, air & water cooled should be able to hit it's limit within the available voltage though.

So it will be capable of xxxx clocks at x.xx volts on air, should do a bit better on water, better yet with chilled water, more with dry ice & ln2 & so on. Only way to see what your particular card is capable of is to try it & see.
