Rotary vs non-rotary compression fittings

I'm needing straight compression fittings, and see these two:

Bitspower Ultimate G 1/4 Thread 1/2" ID x 3/4" OD Rotary Compression Fitting (BP-RCPF-CC5)

Other than the fact the rotary fitting seems to be raised away from the thread and presumably rotates, and the non-rotary would indicate it sits flush and does not rotate, are there any other differences? Which one would I need for using with a bay-reservoir? I was thinking the regular fitting would be fine, for using on my bay-reservoir and one of the ports on my radiator.

The first one is rotary, the joint is rotating between the thread and the fitting.

You don't really need the first one unless you need an extender or in case the tube you put on can twist the fittings off. So having a rotary joint will prevent the fitting to unscrew with the pressure of the twisted tubing, hope you understand what I mean.

Get the cheapest one and you will be fine in your case thumb.gif The rotary is probably useless.

Sometimes, when you connect two fittings with a piece of tubing, you may not do it perfectly, and the tubing ends up with a small twist that can potentially unscrew the fittings (from the blocks). The rotaries you linked counter that.

Or, you can do it how I always put my tubing on. Facing the end of the tubing (the end that's going on a fitting), twist the end of the tubing clockwise a little, then put it on. That torque from the tubing provides a force on the fitting in the direction that tightens it.

The only time you need a rotary is a 90 degree or 45 degree, avoid rotaries that are strait like your first picture!

Thanks. But why avoid rotaries that are straight? Simply no need for them?

A few months back a member was using every type of rotary and only the strait rotaries were leaking, No one really needs a strait rotary fitting as it just adds to where a leak can begin. You can't help it if your build needs a 90-45 degree, whenever I put a serious side load on my Bitspower 90 degree rotaries (subjected to more than normal loads) they suck in air. If you don't have to have a rotary then stick with regular compression fittings.
