Ubuntu on older dell dimension Video driver issue

Thread Starter
The install runs fine I have tweaked and added all the programs I want at the time. My only issue is figuring out how to find a more precise driver for the on board graphics. When I am on the web the page kind of scroll laggily <<<< yes I made that word up...LOL Im sure some people remember the "Old Days" when graphics did this. When Windows XP pro was on this particular PC it didnt do that. Could anyone point me in the right direction? This is what I pulled up on the terminal:

lspci | grep VGA
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82845G/GL[Brookdale-G]/GE Chipset Integrated Graphics Device (rev 03)

Thanks for any help!!

It's Intel and built into the kernal already ( or should be at least ).

Are you sure it's not Firefox's new "Smooth Scroll"? If you're on 12? i think or later then that may be making the same effect. You can disable it by going to " about:config " and typing " smoothScroll " into the search box, and double click the " general.smoothScroll " item to set it to " false ".

Tried your possibility and still the same effect happening. Its like a wave goes down the page as it moves. my resolution is excellent on a 22" screen so I was stumped. set at 1680X1050

sudo apt-get install libgl1-mesa-dri libgl1-mesa-glx libdrm2 libdrm-intel1

Run that, it should find the packages. If not your sources might not have them, don't know why they wouldn't.

The following packages were automatically installed and are no longer required:
fonts-dustin ttf-dustin gnome-extra-icons
Use 'apt-get autoremove' to remove them.
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 0 to remove and 5 not upgraded.

Well that wasnt it. Im wondering if it is a setting related to compiz or something??

It could be that you need to set the color depth lower. in your xorg.conf.

I dont know if it was a package I installed or if it was an update that the system downloaded in update manager. Either way it seems to have fixed itself. Thanks for all the help!!!
