Which Z77 board is better, the Asus Maximus V Formula or the Gigabyte G.1 Sniper 3?

I have never seen or heard anything good about Gigabyte support and Asus makes the best (IMO) motherboards at the moment.

Asus support is terrible atm. Gigabyte support is good, and I haven't seen anything bad about about them, and they actually do a good job at RMAs.

Both are great boards, but both are overkill imho. Any reason why you want to go with top-tier board?

BTW if you really ready to invest that much money into motherboard, I would personally go with Socket 2011 build...

you know they are very differnt boards right? both can do extreme OC, however the G1.Sniper 3 has a PLX8747 while the M5F doesn't. That means the G1.Sniper 3 can run 4-way at 8x per slot and 3-way at 16x/8x/8x and 2-way at 16x/16x. The M5F can run 2-way at 8X/8x, and 3-way crossfirex at 8x/4x/4x. The maximus 5 extreme would be more of an equal match in terms of feature set in terms of PCi-E layout, the extreme has more Ln2 OC features than the Sniper 3 and formula tho. All you need for dual cards on Z77 is 8x/8x however, so it isn't a real drawback there is very little difference otherwise. The G1.Sniper 3is sort of a multi-GPu gaming board.

personally socket 2011 is aimed at the more work related tasks and not games. i dont have 1000 to spend on a cpu/mobo combo.

Minimum budget for 2011 required is about $700, which about what you are spending now.

For GTX670 SLI with normal overclock, I would not bother by anything better than Asus P8Z77-V Pro, Sabertooth, or Gigabyte GA-Z77X-UD5H personally.

I am running GTX460 SLI with 3570K with UD5H, and could not be happier.

Those all are great boards and will save few bucks.

My point is that there is no need to buy top-tier board, unless well.... for looks or you are planning some LN2 and etc.

im looking at around $500 for the CPU/mobo on Newegg.com. as for the SLI, it will come later as i dont have a golden monkey to sell back to Indiana Jones.

also, if i wanted an x79 build, i would have started the thread with that question instead of this one. X79 is OVERKILL for what i will be using this "gaming rig" for. thanks for your input though. ill keep that under advisement.

Great, now I was saying that you can get what you need for~ $400 ($200 mobo + 3570K).

Maybe you did not get my original intentions smile.gif, but the whole point mentioning 2011 was from the fact that you decided to buy $300 mobo which fits in 2011 segment.

You did not specify what the system was for in the original post, nor specified what do you need from motherboard.

If you don't need some special functions that G1 Sniper and Maximus V Formula provide, you can save quite a lot.

1. Stable OC's.
2. Has to be Z77 (like in OP).
3. Aesthetics do matter but im willing to compromise.
4. SLI will be a future addition.
5. My girlfriend is hotter than yours (assuming i had one haha)

sorry, that last one is just for laughs. gotta liven the mood a bit tonguesmiley.gif

EDIT: i dont need the 6 cores or hyper threading which makes the 2011 CPUs a waste.
