Inaccurate voltage readings

Thread Starter
Hello guys!
So I just decided to take a closer look at some GPU-z readings (latest version) and they don't seem so accurate to me.

What do you guys make of this?

First screen shot idling at downclocked freq and voltage.
338

Second screen shot idling at just applied 3D clocks.
338

Third screen shot is running furkmark.
338

Seems like the card is getting some vdroop or is GPUz actually wrong?

Fermi has a fairly complex voltage table and it looks like GPU-Z (or less likely MSI AB) is reading the wrong values.

If you want to know which one is accurate, take some actual measurements with a DMM.

Yeah, I thought of that but unfortunately that's not an option. I don't have the necessary equipment nor the skill to take such measurements tongue.gif. All I can do is rely on software readings... For some reason I'm leaning towards trusting GPU-z because it makes more sense. The voltage can't possibly stay EXACTLY at the value I set in Afterburner. Just like a CPU with its vdroop.

Edit: If I push max voltage in Afterburner (1138mV) it jumps up to ~1070mV (it fluctuates between 1068-1076mV depending on the FPS in furmark.)

Just flashed it with unlocked voltage control that goes up to 1.213v.
Are the VRMs capable of handling such voltage? I tried going for 900Mhz but it took 1.2v to get it stable but I was reaching 90C. (~1.13v as reported by GPUz under load by furmark)

Hmm depends on how decent your block is, which one you using?

rolleyes.gif That made me giggle!

I'm using stock cooling at 100% devil-smiley-019.gif

It gets to ~90C with a 25c ambient.

If your GPU core gets to 90°C then id hate to think what temps your VRM are getting to tongue.gif
Get a block on it, better temps will get you that 900 core solid and more likely at lower than 1.2v.

TBH theres no way at all i would push anything over 1.138v on stock cooling, well not unless it was just to be purely abused/benched with no intention other than to have a short life thumb.gif

Well, wish I could get WC but thats just too much money for not such a big gain .. I don't intent of running it like this now during the summer. This will be my winter OC when I'll have temps like 17C ambient. Right now its at 1.113v @ 850Mhz fully stable and doesnt go beyond 75-78C while playing BF3 which is perfectly safe. Ambient of ~32C up to 35C.

edit: not to get confused about ambient temps: right now its past 8 AM and I've been awake all night. Night temps these past few days have been awesome but the heat is bound to come back in a couple of days. Ambient temps of 32-35 are during the day when its burning hot outside and just as hot in my room.
Had ~ 25C reading on my digital thermometer this night when I did the tests... Bottom line is ... stock cooling sucks, man! If anything, I'll get an ACP or a Shaman and some VRM cooling to push it to 900Mhz.
