Looking for mechanical keyboard

Thread Starter
Having used the same basic logitech keyboard for the better part of 7+ years, I am completely unaware of what keyboards are out there. So here's to hoping you folks can educate me on whats available for what I'm looking for. Being that I use my peripherals forever I don't really care about the price.

Looking for:
Mechanical - I'm mostly looking to improve my gaming. The most typing I do is on forums, and who really cares about that. :-P
Proper amount of nkro. I've actually run into my keyboard crapping itself when doing some piloting on some games, another reason to upgrade. I have a PS/2 port and will almost certainly be using it.
Media buttons - I really like having the option to pause/play/mute/volume control from the keyboard
Backlighting - Not necessary, but it would be nice to have for those dark, lonely nights wink.gif

I've tried looking and the Razer BlackWidow, the Corsair K90 and the Steelseries 7G are what I've narrowed it down to by myself. I'd love to hear opinions about these and alternatives if you think something would be better for my primary purpose: FPS killin. Thanks!

Have a look at the ducky shine series of keyboards, they have everything you are looking for.

Thanks for the suggestion! They do look pretty nice, I think the only thing that would annoy me is having to use the function keys to use the media controls. That basically nullifies the convenience of them imo. It is nice to have so many backlighting choices though.

I did find this thread fairly interesting about Ducky vs Corsair.

The Corsair still has a slight edge for me given the dedicated media buttons and cleaning it should be nice and easy given it's design. Blue is just so overdone though...

I was in the same boat as you when choosing a mechanical keyboard with the same requirements. specifically, I wanted a mech kb (brown, or blues) that has backlighting, media keys, and cost around $100. When the K90 popped out, I went with that mainly because of the backlighting, media keys and the price, along with design and the corsair's brand and rep. For the switch themselves, it wasnt what i really wanted, but I gave the k90 a try and so far it has been all good and an improvement over my G15v2. If Corsair ever decides to bring out a K90 using blue or other switches, then that would be sweet.

And I do agree that cleaning is a bit easy since whatever crumbs or hair particles can slide all the way to the bottom's edge for some easy cleaning.

Does the K90 use reds? Are you happy with it even though you wanted browns or blues? I'm mostly looking for reds as I think they'll be the most comfortable for what I do on my PC.

I just got a DAS keyboard. It's great. I'm thinking to buy another for work.

i got the silent one. It's not really silent but you can still get a good idea when watching videos on youtube.

I have looked at DAS. I can really appreciate their basic appearance, I'm just looking for a bit more functionality. The full nkro is nice as well.
