7950 is the obvious choice one principal alone. it has more vram is faster, if only a little at the miserable 800mhz stock speed and is priced great for what it is, compared to the 7870 which is better these days, but still overpriced. no contest with a $30 price difference.

If he has the money the 7950 is a killer card, and the tad extra is worth it for sure a small difference, plus maker to get water blocks if he gets the bug biggrin.gif
If he has the money the 7950 is better, and prob 30 bucks better;

7950 All the way for such a small difference. 7950 has much better shading power and has 3gb's vram with a larger bus to boot, the 7870 might give it a run stock for stock but once overclocked the 7950 should trump all over the 7870 even if the 7870 is also overclocked. Nevermind the fact the 7950 will be able to last much longer due to the increased number of shaders, ram and a higher bus.

Yeah true I talked to him and he decided to go with the MSI 7950 that I just ordered for myself just 10 minutes ago. Came with 3 free games so he liked that also
