Advice on new MB

Thread Starter
At the advice of other members I'm going to replace my mobo. Is the P5B or the P5Wdh a better choice for me? Any other options? Thanks.

If you want to go for extremely high bus speeds, go with the P5B. If you're going to keep your multi at 10x, check out the P5W. You really can't go wrong with either one.

will i need to flash the bios on either one? I'm not running sli or xfire. Newegg has the P5B deluxe (non wifi, i think that's the only difference) for $185 and the P5WDH Deluxe is $250. They seem pretty similar, is the P5W really that much better?

Both motherboards are very good, though the P5W does have a few extra bells and whistles. Whether the extra cost is warranted is really up to you. The P5B-E is getting some good reviews and is only around $150. Any of them would do a very nice job with your Conroe.

I would not expect that you would need to flash the BIOS on any of the new boards currently on the market. These CPUs have been out for several months now, so I imagine that all of the retailers have boards with more recent BIOSes on them.

It is always good to flash to the lastest stable bios, doesn't matter what motherboard you have.
Also, maybe look into the Abit AW9-D Max? It is supposedly one of the best 975x overclockers, and it doesn't cost as much as a P5W64

Since you don't plan Crossfire/SLI my vote goes to the P5B Deluxe or indeed the P5B-E.

The ICH8R Southbridge on those boards is newer/better than the ICH7R on the 975X based boards...

These boards will let you overclock really well, and have all the features (I think) you'll need
