As for more severe punishments like I said the legal system is corrupt. I am by no means trying to start a fight with you. I am only saying what is true.

I'm not disagreeing with the corruptness.

Now MS goes on to break more rules but we should just let them because the original crime was a while ago and this new crime only happened because of the punishment of that old crime? So you are saying we should just all stop caring about any of it because the system is too far gone? So let's not even bother punishing them when the courts actually do rule that they have done wrong?

It doesn't matter because of the many other options and work-arounds available.

Kind of funny people complain that the legal system is corrupt to justify complaining about the legal system working properly. For a change, anti-competitive practices were punished meaningfully - by forcing competition.

They diverged from the standard practice of allowing a company to:

1) Gain market share and eliminate competition by anti-competitive practices.
2) Pay inconsequential fine.
3) Rake in enormous profits while the victims of your anti-competitive practices (both competitors and consumers) suffer.

It didn't break Microsoft and it fostered competition in the browser space, benefiting everyone. If Microsoft screwed up in complying with their punishment, they take the hit. People get dinged all the time for failing to comply with rules attached to them as punishment by the courts or as part of bargains with the courts, and they are often things people normally wouldn't be punished for.

I see logic in that.

Why wait for them to be punished again? Microsoft's Windows 7 is not the only OS in the world. There are plenty to choose from.

EDIT: To make it make more sense.

You folks don't know a monopoly when you see one. Did you forget how MSFT destroyed Netscape Navigator? They caused web browser dark ages for years until Mozilla broke through. They can do it again. Be afraid of MSFT's corporate muscle.

If your aren't intelligent enough to download/install Chrome/firefox/opera on your own, then you have no business using a computer.

Plus the last thing I want is for the Windows OS disc to have bloatware on it.

Some people on this thread probably should have paid more attention to the Netscape vs. IE browser war. For the last time, MSFT were punished for wrecking Netscape by integrating IE into the OS, which persuaded users to use it because it was already there, and downloading another browser took ages on a 56k modem. The EU Commission then announced in January 2009 that they were investigating the bundling of Internet Explorer with Windows, saying "Microsoft's tying of Internet Explorer to the Windows operating system harms competition between web browsers, undermines product innovation and ultimately reduces consumer choice." In response, MSFT said that it would not bundle Internet Explorer with Windows 7 E, the version of Windows 7 to be sold in Europe. The commission then agreed to let MSFT show a web page when starting IE for the first time, so that users could choose a browser from a randomly sorted list of 12. You can read more about it on Wikipedia's page for BrowserChoice.
