AMD plans a lot of Vishera processors, including some quad-cores, and the new series is scheduled to launch in Q4 2012. The fastest quad-core from among them is called AMD FX-4350. It works at 4.2GHz native clock and 4.3 GHz turbo, has 12MB cache and 125W TDP.

All three quad core Vishera 32nm cores support AM3+ motherboards, DDR3 1866 and were originally expected in mid Q3 2012, but they now have the late October launch tag at their sleeve.

I just hope all models will be unlocked again, and that AMD retains reference clock overclocking.
Intel overclocking nowadays is just upping the multiplier (well, mostly), reference clock adds some spice!

With Steamroller I assume you won't be able to modify the bclk on AMD's platform without some serious stability issues across the board (literally, across the motherboard). However they may let you modify the base clock of the CPU only, similar to SB-E.

If Trinity gets to around 4.6-4.8GHz, as Tom's confirmed, I'm sure the FX parts will be breaking 5GHz. Look at Phenom II vs Llano -- 45nm C2 Ph2 hits around 3.8GHz, 45nm C3 exceeds 4.0GHz, 45nm E0 usually caps out at around 4.2GHz on air. Llano on 32nm had serious trouble breaking 3.7GHz.

I was an AMD lover and still hope that they rise but lets be honest, AMD is failing in the computer CPU section. They are more focused on the Laptop section . GPU they are the best tongue.gif but im getting off topic.



AMD chips nowadays suck. PLEASE AMD if your going to release these QUAD cores just make it better then the PHll . PLEASE I BEG YOU !

Vishera IPC is almost certain to be similar to Phenom II. However, core scaling on Bulldozer-based designs is not as good as core scaling on more conventional designs. So while these should match a heavily overclocked Phenom II in single-threaded workloads, they WILL fall behind in multithreaded workloads due to their scaling being more like that of a Phenom II X3 (don't take this as, "they will perform similar to a Phenom II X3"; those rarely get above 3.7GHz whereas these should be pushing 5GHz).

All in all the improvement here will be similar to what we saw with Phenom II. Now let's hope that Steamroller, which will be a relatively large change, not in CPU µarch but in the overall platform, will not be a fail (see Bulldozer) and will not yield little actual benefit (see AM2 and every socket that came after it).

If Trinity gets to around 4.6-4.8GHz, as Tom's confirmed, I'm sure the FX parts will be breaking 5GHz. Look at Phenom II vs Llano -- 45nm C2 Ph2 hits around 3.8GHz, 45nm C3 exceeds 4.0GHz, 45nm E0 usually caps out at around 4.2GHz on air. Llano on 32nm had serious trouble breaking 3.7GHz.

I'm sure that has as much to do with the architecture of an APU as it does the CPU.

I don't get what you're trying to say; are you implying that the CPU portion actually can't exceed these speeds or are you saying that the CPU is held back by the GPU and the rest of the platform (which I agree with)?
